Besides Antique and Classic cars and trucks, I am also a fan of Big Trucks. Wondering how many owners and/or fans of '60 to '81 C-50 to C-90 trucks we have out there.

I have had a couple of 1957 C6500 trucks one a 283 power-pac and one a 261 farm truck, but nothing larger than a 2500 now.
I have been looking for a C4500 or a C6500 37 -54 single axle dual wheel firetruck pumper but they are hard to transport with an ordinary car hauler.

I would love to have a big truck but no room to store them,plus the city has a thing about big commercial trucks in a residential area. Jeff

I have a 56 4400 and a 59 Viking 60. I love my big trucks! the 59 is for sale...

The 2500 is a 1988 year model Serria 350 5 speed manual OD extended long bed. I sold the 1957 C6500 grain bed 261 4 speed with 2 speed axle, still have a few small parts, a heater and oilbath Air cleaner with the crankcase ventilation connection in the top of the air cleaner,a lug wrench and some other small stuff, steel door inside panels.

Hi , I am new to the forum, hoping to get some help from you experts. I have a 1961 Chevrolet C 50 with a very large V6, I assueme to be a 401 or 402, the carb needs kitted but I can find no information on it. It is rather a small 2 barrel and the float bowl is arrow shaped and points to the front of the engine.
Any help would be appreciated, the internet has let me down so far, and my parts houses here arent the greatest unless you are woking on a 2000 or newer model CAT!!!

I inherited the truck from a friend who was tired of looking at it.
It has a 4spd trans and 2 spd rear, that huge V6 that purrs like a large kitten and it is a dump bed stake. Runs great (other than some leakage from the carb) and drives better than most cars I have been in. My wife loves it!! ( Cant beat that, she is pretty special!)
I want to get the small things done and just a touch of body and paint, it could be a very nice looking truck as well as the workhorse that it is.
Please, any input or leads would be greatly appreciated.


Truck is chevy, engine valve covers say GMC, is it factory? I dunno......the puzzle expands!!!!

Welcome to the site. Altho it could be possible, most likely the engine has been changed. Also in '61, I have seen 305 V-6's in trucks that size and altho I'm not sure exactly on the year introduced, they also made 351's and 401's. The 478 was introduced in '62. The best thing to do with your carb is to get the numbers from it. Then if your local parts stores can't help, you could always try a carb rebuilding company. There are some large outfits out there with pretty good info.

I have foud no numbers on it (the carb) at all, I have yet to remove it. I was hoping to find a kit prior to removing it but that is so far sounding like it is not going to work out.

Thank you all so much, the pad on the engine sounds like the first place to start.

Looks to be a 305C280663 on the data plate. I deduce to be a 305 C model, I could use some date code help if you have it handy.

Date codes should be on most engine parts. On Chevy V-8's they are also on the back of the block, drivers side, near the Bell Housing, but not real sure about a V-6 GMC, but look for a letter and some numbers. An example would be A151. "A" would be for January, "15" for the 15th day and "1" for 1961. If they follow the same pattern as Chevrolet the letter and numbers should be in-between what looks like two "slotted screw heads" (xA151x). I would look on the intake and exhaust manifolds, check the back of the block, and the cleanest ones should be on the heads, but under the valve covers.

Are the remaining numbers of the engine code stamp just serial numbers? or do they have some other meaning.
Also would the vin on the truck reval any info on that GMC engine being there? I know on newer trucks the code has engine ,paint, etc. but not sure about the older commercial trucks.
The data plate on the kick panel shows hp ratings for 235, 265 ( I think it was) and 283 so I am assuming hat is what the truck had factory

The vin may show the original engine, but the GMC engine was NOT used in Chevrolet trucks of that vintage I would suspect either a 235, a 261 inline six or a 283 V8 or even a 348BBV8 Is the original truck a C5000?
