Are the three round head screws that hold the chrome cover on the horn chrome or painted black? Thanks

They are plated and depending what Chevrolet literature you look at depends on the location of the screws. Some pictures show two screws across the top with one in the center on the bottom. Other pictures show one at top center and two on bottom. Take your pick.

JYD: i sent my 31 horn to c t nuxoll as you suggested. real nice fella on the phone. he just sent it back and said he couldn't repair it due to a short in the coil. you or anybody else know of the whereabouts of a coil for the old horn? perhaps a coil out of a later 6 volt chev or GM horn might serve as a donor. any ideas? thanks, mike

Mike, The coil should be able to be rewound. I have never tried it but maybe an generator armature rewinder could do it or at least supply the wire so you could do it in front of the TV on a cold winter evening. All it should take is the lacquered wire and patience.

Mike, I bought my origional horn at a swap meet for three dollars. I recoginized it from pictures I had seen. It did not work. I hooked a battery charger up to it and turned that little screw. When it started blowing everyone in the shop jumped. It works great!
