VCCA Home Forums TECHNICAL - 1945 AND EARLIER 1929-1932 Mesh screen above the headliner?

Took the head liner out of my 31 coupe last week end. there is metal, mesh, screen above the head liner. there is a wire attached to the screen along the windshield running over to the drivers door and down along the back of the door post, about half way down the door. There is nothing attached to the door side of the wire, like a switch or something. Can some one tell me what this wire is for?

Sounds like a later wire mesh roof antenna was installed for a radio.

Did the antenna screen apear to be original or do you think work had been done to the car sometime later and the screen added?

Do you have any extra holes in the firewall, especially on the drivers side?

The only hole that I don't know what it is for is on the drivers side about a foot down from the top of the cowl in the piece of body thats in middle of the door and the hood. There is a hole in the dash by your left knee too? The head liner is pretty thin, so I think it is from day one? If it is for a radio, why would it come down the pillar between the drivers door and the small passenger window? It's not like I have seen a lot of these cars. This is my first old chevy. I can put some pictures on with my post if you think this would give you guys any more ideas, if only some one would tell me how to do it? Thanks for your input, Tony

The best way I can discribe it is, if your sitting in the driveres seat and look up at the roof, about six inches back from the windshield is a wire sodered to this mesh from right to left all the way across the roof leeding to the post that divides the door to the rear drivers side window. The wire goes about half way down the post behind the interior trim cloth. The end of the wire just sticks out through the cloth? Thats the way I got the car. I talk to the past owner this past week end. He had owned the car since 1958. He told me there was not a radio in the car as long as he owned it? If I could figure out how to put pictures on here I could show you what I'm talking about. thanks for the help, Tony

Yes it does have a dome light. Is there a switch for the dome light on both sides of the car? I only had a switch for the dome light on the passenger side?
