1925 chevy 1 Ton motor # T1826634 casting # E 30-5 modle# 6R1084 the question is did this truck have fender mounted headlights or bar mounted headlights ? I have seen both in this year and want to know what is correct. mine at this time are after market bar mounted sealbeams from late 30s early 40s, and I would like to be correct. Thanks

Based on the casting date of the engine your truck would be an EARLY truck and would NOT have a tie bar.

6R1084 Oakland, (R) 1 ton truck, assembled first week of September 1084

Ray,
That is indeed an early Chevrolet. Thought that the first Chevrolet assembled was in 1913. Now I learn 1084. Gosh that was before the dark ages and just a 18 years after the Norman invasion.

Sorry just couldn't resist. My fingers get crossed now and then too.

I have been wrong before and well could be now but I would suggest that a previuos owner has fitted a replacement engine that was cast later than your truck.

I thought model "R" trucks (model # 6R1084) were considered a late 1925 that should be the first one with full(semi-elliptic) length front springs and headlamp tie bar. Model M (early 1925) was the last to use the quarter elliptic spring on the front and headlamps on the fenders. The model "M" wheelbase is 120" and the later model "R" is longer at 124" wheelbase. The engine casting # E 30-5 of May 30, 1925 would fit with the model "R" truck.

So Lets see 6R1084 with full ellipic front springs, 124" wheel bace, two valve cover head is a 1 ton truck built in September of 1925 with a engine built in May 30 - 1925. So light bar or no light bar ? Sorry just brain dead. Many thanks all. Terry Agrin

The late "R" model would have a light bar. It was not uncommon to have an engine cast date 2-4 months before the vehicle build date.

I hope I don't confuse the issue further, but 6R1080 would appear as 6 R 1080.

The 6 = Oakland

The R = Late 25 1 ton truck.

1080 is the assembly sequence and the 1080 falls in the month of early September.

Model "R" is a late 1925 model year and with a 124" wheel base it would have had a headlamp bar.
