On the subject of the windshield regulator, does anyone have any suggestion on how I can go about getting a slight warp out of the windshield regulator board? One of the regulator assembly axes points rubs the edge of the inset hole. Sighting down the board you can see a slight bow. Finally found regulator assembly for 1930, I am ready to let the one for a 31' go. E-mail if there is interest.

  How is the regulator board attached to the upper portion of the metal frame. I know there are four mounting hole in the regulator board and there are four threaded holes in the frame. Once the regulator is mounted to the regulator board the upholstery is applied. My question is; are the mounting bolts pushed through the fabric, or is the fabric pulled back, bolts placed and then the fabric tacked over? Does any one have pictures of what it looks like? A picture is worth a thousand words.

After doing some investigative work I came up with the same conclusion. JYD you summed it up nicely. The "Fisher Body Service Manual" gave a hint but the "A Pictorial History of Chevrolet 29-39" provided me with the best view of the header area. Question, is there any other book out there that provides a more detailed photographic view of the Chevrolet interiors, and close ups of body, and mechanical features? Is there a source for the nickel plated oval head screws and cup washers?

The regulator is attached to the board then the upholstery and thin cotton pad covers the board, is nailed to the back side and then screwed in place. The screws in the top of the board adjust the board up and down.

I do not have the original mounting screws. The header board was on the back seat.

Go to you local hardware store and get the slotted oval head machine screws and finish washters. I have not checked but think they are 1/4"-20 and nickel plated. Stainless is a good alternative. If the store does not have them then go to a an older store. Slotted screws are not generally made today so old stock is your best bet. Or you can check on line at one of the numerous fastener sites and order them. Several were posted a couple of months back. If you do a search it should turn up the websites.

FYI...I have found several screws that I needed at Lowes in the special fasteners bins....Also I have found the SS slotted oval head screws and the finish washers at a commercial electronics store, ask for panal mounting screws and washers, only thing is they may be 10-32 screws, I have found some of those on my 28. also some 8-32s when I need a new screw I just retap the hole to 10-32 since I previously did a lot of electronic panel mounting.

Tools; Your best chance of getting a small piece of mohair is at the upcomming flea market held on 2/6/05. It's at the American Legion Post 455, 2 Meadowbrook Lane, New Egypt, NJ. Hosted by The Historic Region of the VCCA. For more info call Dennis Siciliano at (609)894-9421.

If the Filling Station is out of the manuals you can also try FAXON Auto Literature 1-800-458-2734 They will have what you need. As for the header board screws you can try a marine hardware store. They should have what you need, in nickle chrome slotted with trim washers. If you need all 4 it is a good idea to buy several spares while they are still avilable. They should be 1/4-20 .
