There are 2 radios, one has the word CHEVROLET cut out in the front, the other one has a large "Z" as the front of the radio. Actually, these are the same radio and came in two different cases. Never did figure why Chevrolet did that.

The Model numbers are: 985252 and 985286

Both radios are operated from a control head mounted on the steering column.

Check the April 1988 G&D for the technical write up on these radios.

I've considered adding a radio to Old Blue. Where do these mount? Under the dash? What would be a current fair ball park price for a working unit? Can these actually be heard above the background noise from the engine, tranny, wind, and road?

The "box" mounts under the dash on the firewall. The control head mounts on the steering column.

Very difficult to give a price on this unit in view of the fact it is so rare. My guess: $500.00+

The radio plays very loud. You will be able to hear it on main roads, but for off road use it would be marginal.

The most difficult part to locate is the steering column mount, next would be the control head, and finally the special long cables needed to operate the "box". So, finally you need to locate one of the two "boxies".

The question whether the 37 truck radio can be heard while traveling the roads? I would say no definately not at a comfort level. I've had the 37 truck radio in working codition for the last 30 years and it sounds great when I have it parked with the ignition switch on and the points in open mode. Driving on the road there is so much wind noise from the doors & windows, windshield the radio becomes muffled as it is mounted with built in speaker in back of instrument panel and I do drive 55 on the main roads. But I do love it!

You should look for a pair of the optional ear phones.

Might be a good "sound systems" defense to use these against the youngsters that drive down the road with their thumpity thump so called music....
