I have forgotten the torque settings for the timing gear bolts, rod & main bearing bolts, intake manifold bolts and oil pump mounting bolt for a 1968 283 V/8. Also the torque for bolt at end of crank shaft that holds harmonic balancer.
Thanks in advance Ross

Ross, What threw me was the bolt for the balancer. That was not used on a 283, except for the real high performance engines with the big balancer. Had to go back and refresh my memory. Later in the '88's all small blocks had the bolt.
I installed the bolt in my '57 by drilling and tapping the crank shaft. The balancer was a loose fit on the shaft.
The torque is 75 Ft. pounds.

Gene I bought this 1968 Biscayne Chevrolet a while back and was told it had a non running 283 (year unkown) in it. It has a large bolt on the crankshaft and it has a small balancer. The block casting number looks to be 3896948 with head number 3917291 or 281 hard to tell, the date code on heads which look to have double humps looks like 1-28-7. Thanks Ross
