I am working on the dash on a 1932 and notice a pattern in the paint on the inset area around the instruments. Is the pattern I am seeing just remnants of a foil(?) overlayment? How can I restore the pattern?
Do I just sand the pattern down and paint it black like the rest of the dash? Thank you.

When you order, be sure to specify the 1932 decal. 1931 is an engine turned decal and the 1932 is an Art Deco decal. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Chalk up another "boo boo" for the Filling Station catalog. As Chevy stated, GR-207 is the correct decal that you want, but it really isn't a "machined turned" decal as listed in the catalog, it is actually an Art Deco type of decal instead. The listing for the 1931 "machined turned" decal in their catalog is correct.

Good luck with your project. laugh laugh laugh laugh

The vehicle needs to have the deluxe interior. With the standard interior the instrument depression was painted only. That is unless the dealer installed the decal as an accessory.

Also, not all of the models with the deluxe interiors had the Art Deco decal in early 1932. For example, models with the deluxe interior built in the Oakland factory prior to about April of 1932 didn't have the Art Deco decal. Models with the deluxe interior built in that factory after April did.  laugh laugh laugh

steve6, The cabriolet is also a closed car because it has roll up windows, confusing isn't it? LOL

JYD, Could a standard car have the deluxe interior? How can you tell which interior you have in '32? Thanks

The trim code is a good clue. Are the seats broadcloth or mohair or leather? That is another clue. Do the door panels have single or double stitching?

Where is the trim code?

Seats and door panels have been redone with non-original material...any other clues?

As mentioned previously on another topic concerning codes, for 1932 the trim number is stamped on the Fisher Body cowl tag under the hood of the car. The paint number is stamped on the same tag as well, along with the job number and the body number. The above would be for Fisher built bodies only. laugh laugh laugh laugh

That's not how it works. The trim code is based on the model of car. For example, the Coach had a different trim number than the Special Sedan. The Landau Phaeton had a different trim number than the Cabriolet. The Sport Coupe had a different trim number than the 5-Window Coupe and so on. Some models, like the Coach and the Special Sedan used several different trim numbers and etc. laugh laugh laugh laugh

The roadster and phaeton were painted in the instrument inset.
