If this works, here's two short videos of my frankenchevy. In real life it's louder than what you hear in these clips, especially the transmission whine at about 40 mph.

Also, when it's cold it starts much harder. It turns over VERY slowly. It wasn't always like that but it is now. Once warmed up, usually even just a little, it starts just fine.

Y'alls opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

Very cool addition to the website! I love the sound of the open cars and the whine of the gears.
I hope the cops didn't give you a ticket for 'driving while distracted'!!

Hi Bill,
Videos came out O.K. The gearbox "whine" you mention appears to be more prevalent in top gear, and sounds like the differential
ring and pinion gears may need adjustment, could be worth checking.
The hard to crank on the starter when cold, may indicate at the least,a worn drive end housing bush in the starter motor, and possibly excessive clearance between the shaft and the bore of the commutator endplate. This endplate has no bush, the shaft merely turns in the cast iron endplate, but can easily be machined out to take a porous bronze bushing, and this will eliminate any chance of the armature "poling",or rubbing up against the field coil pole shoes, thereby giving symtoms of slow cranking.
Hope this points you in the right direction.

Great video Bill.
I'm looking forward to hearing similar sounds from my own in the near future.
Thanks for sharing!

The whining sound is definitely more prevelant in high gear. I took it for a ride thisd afternoon just to listen. It's not as loud as I remembered it being. It also sounds more like the transmission then the rear. The tranny makes a few other noises that bother me too. I believe it wouldn't hurt it to put in new bearings/bushings. Other than it it shifts fine.

Hi Bill,

These clips are amazing. You are getting so high tech. The sounds inspire me to get moving on my sedan. Maybe next summer.

Doing the clips is easy now that I know how. It's no different then posting a still picture.

Heck with the sounds. Wait til you get to drive yours. That's the fun part.

Snow again? I guess you're another one of those people who will try to convince me that at certain times of the year water will fall from the sky in the form of little white, fluffy looking flakes in large enough amounts as to cover everything, sometimes by many feet.

Yeah right. Give it a rest. I'm not that stupid. [Linked Image from forums.woodnet.net]

Ok, maybe I am. [Linked Image from forums.woodnet.net]

Within the hour I'll be driving that old car just for the heck of it. IIRC, it's supposed to reach the low 80's today. I have the front door open as I type. It's also supposed to cool off to the upper 60's later this week. Sometimes I do think about my yankee neighbors, and others who live in colder climates, who have to deal with cold weather, ice, and snow. Not to forget salted roads or whatever it is they're using these days. Y'all have my deepest sympathies.

Having to deal with all that must really cut into the time you can reasonably enjoy your drivers. On the other hand, Down here it gets so hot in the summer that I won't drive the old car as often as I would like. I guess AC has spoiled me in my old age.

But I digress. In a short while I'll be driving down the road with the top down, wind blowin' in my hair, beepin' that old klaxon at people who wave and smile as I pass by them, and I'll be thinkin' bout y'all while I do it.

Seven fresh inches yesterday and last night of beautiful fresh snow. Just waved to a guy go by on his vintage '71 Polaris. Don't have tops on snowmobiles so he couldn't put it down. Doesn't get any better than this.
:vcca: yay
Hey Biil,
How about a snomobile smiley???

Nice videos!! Makes me want to try it. Although I have a hard enough time keeping my 24 in the road without a camera in hand!! Sounds pretty much like mine, makes me wish I could take a tour right now!!

Thanks,

I drove mine yesterday. It was about 70*. Todays high was in the mid 50's. It may be a few days before I can drive it again.

The video would have been much better if I weren't trying to drive at the same time. I had little idea where the camera was pointed.

Very cool! I sometimes have difficulty with my girlfriend envisioning what my '24 touring will be like when finished. This went a long way towards that visualization. Thank you. (truth be known, I sometimes have my doubts about whether or not I'll finish my restoration of the '24. It's videos like these the restores my faith.)

Thanks Tom.

Keep at it. If all you do is a little at a time, you'll eventually get your car finished. It's frustrating, among other things, to take so long to get your car finished at least enough to be able to enjoy it.

Of all the things I've seen and experienced in my life, as simple as it is, going for even a short drive in my old car ranks right up there at or near the top in things I enjoy or have enjoyed doing.

My digital camera has gone on a two week trip with my son. Maybe when it comes back I can make a betyter video.
