Mr. Bill,

My photos are not displaying when I open a thread. I just posted to a forum with a photo and all I see is the broken link symbol. On some of my computers I can click on the broken link symbol and show the photo and it does appear. On other computers even that does not work.

I thought it was something that I was doing wrong so I checked older posts I made that had photos and they are doing the same thing but they worked fine originally.

Can you tell me how to post a photo so that it will display when the thread is opened?

Thanks,
Brian

An easy thing that you might want to do first is to check your photo link...

Here's how...

Say that your photo link is
http://1931chevrolet.com/images/mirror/mirror2.jpg

What you want to do is open your web browser to a blank page... and then enter this full address into the address line.
Click "Enter" and see whether the photo shows up or not.

If it does then you can go to CHAT, start (or reply to) a thread and click on the first icon at the top of the entry block - which looks like a world and chain symbol... enter your link, press OK, then add the plain english text that you want to be shown. Press OK again. Done.

Here's how to add photos to the MEMBERS ONLY section -- so that they will show up on the left-hand side.

It worked in the post preview the first time but not after it was posted. That's why I went back to check my older posts. They worked fine at the time, and for months after, but now they don't. The process seems to be the same but is somehow different.

Here is a test. It works in the preview but only after I tell it to show the picture.

The second picture is your mirror

Lets see if this works.

[Linked Image from home.comcast.net]

The like above is to this:

http://home.comcast.net/~bigbth/dataplates.jpg

No that's not it. I thought that your new program might not like four part URLs. The original posts were to

http://bigbth.home.comcast.net/dataplates.jpg

Unless there is something wrong with Comcast, which I would suspect if I couldn't see the photos via any method, but I can click the links and they work fine.

So I'm back to the original question, How do you post so that this program will show the image?

Brian

It appears that you are adding the LINK and not "inserting the photo"...

When you look at the icons across the top of the EDIT window:

The first one (world + chain) is to ADD A LINK.

The Third one (paper with shapes on it) INSERTS THE photo.

EXAMPLE:

ONE (world + chain)
http://home.comcast.net/~bigbth/dataplates.jpg

TWO (Paper form with shapes)

Looks like you solved the problem, at least on my home computer. Today all the photos are showing in all the old posts but only at home, none of my photos are showing at the office. Your photo shows fine either location. There must be some subtle difference that gives this forum program problems.

I know the difference between inserting the photo and the link, the link was inserted to show you the path to the picture that was inserted above it but was not being displayed (at least for me). When I looked at the post, the pictures do not show, only a broken link. Hence the reason for showing you the link so that you could see the picture I was trying to insert. Maybe the picture always showed for you, at this point I have no idea.

Regardless, at least it sort of works.....

Thanks,
Brian

Some where along the way did we loose the ability to turn the left column on and off? I got my computer back from having it cleaned of a Schmitt virus and don't see the preference buttons to show left column.

Chat is now at a completely different location.... This is what I've been working on since Thanksgiving... Finally got it moved over last night.

Give me some time to get our customizations installed.

I still don't see the pictures from my comcast website. They appear fine if they are just viewed through a web browser or on any other system (like myspace) but you can't see them if they are loading into a thread on this forum. That's true of the ones I posted and you posted on this thread.

It may be that I am the only one that can't see them and that they are viewable to everyone else on this site.

Maybe the file names need to be 8 characters or less.

Only one of your photos loads on this site (the photo of the Trico sidemount mirror). All of the rest do not.

:o :(

Do they show if you right click on the broken link symbol and click Show Picture?

I don't know what happened or why but at some point last year this program lost the ability to show pictures from at least some hosting services. I know it worked in April.

Are you using Windows for an operating system or linix? Is your automatic update turned to "ON"? It may be a security update working.

I can see the sidemount mirror and the side of the black car with the red stripe, and the ID tag. Can you see Santa in the Red Convertible?

I can see your photo. Strange that I can see some of the photos at some of the places and others not at all....

Yes it is a bit strange, but it may take some time for all the pics to load.
