If you find a source for a Passenger Side Mirror, let me know if you would, as I could not find an original type no where when I searched for one a while back.

Many vendors will have a listing for one, but it is not a '71/'72 style, but a '69/'70 style. Sure, it will fit and it is similar, but not correct. The base of it is pretty much different.

Also they made 2 different kinds for the original type Mirror. One kind is a left and a right style and the other kind fits both. I believe both types are correct and have the same part number.

I was in GM parts business for 41 years and found that the mirrror that fits both sides is the non-remote mirror, but the remote mirror fits the left side only while the right side matches the left in configuration only and is not remote. They are not interchangeable. The right side was available only as an add -on accessory. The parts number was 994187. Thanks for your response.

I see now that I have mis-understood your first post. I was not aware of a Passenger Side one that exactly resembles the Drivers Side Remote type. I always had regular type manuals on my right side when I had a Remote on the left. The two different kinds I was referring to are regular manual types.

Being that you were in the parts business, I'm sure that you have verified that it is no longer availalbe from Chevrolet. The next best place to look is a NOS vendor. There are some that would be listed in Hemmings Motor News that you could check on, but the best place I know of for NOS parts is Obsolete Chevrolet in Georgia.

I have already called them for a regular type, which they didn't have, but it's worth a try anyway. Having the part number will make it easier.

Same thing goes tho. If you find more than one, I would be interested in that type too.

I have a '72 Impala that could use one.

Thanks for your reply. I already tried Chevy Obsolete and had no luck. I guess I'll try salvage yards. It'shard to get them to look for something like that because I don't think a lot of them actually no what they've got.

Let me run this by you. I purchased a wrecked 1973 Caprice Classic some years ago to rob parts for my 1973 Caprice Classic Convertible. On of the items I removed was a passenger side remote control outside mirror. This mirror was controlled by cables. From the mirror head the cables went forward in the door, through the front side of the door and into the cowl. From there it was routed to the center of the dash and exited to the right of the instruments facing the driver. From this position the driver could adjust the mirror.

I'll leave it to the experts to say if the 1973 was the same as your 1972.

That mirror is still located in the storage building at a location unknown to me.

First, thanks for your reply. The accessory manual I have lists the right side mirror for $5.40; that price doesn't sound like a remote mirror and the shop manual only refers to a left hand remote mirror. So, until I see otherwise, I think your mirror will be different tthan mine. I know that some later Caprices had a right hand remote and maybe that started in 73.

Roger,
My 7-1975 parts book shows 9826594 for the replacement right mirror for 1971 and 1972 pass and 1973-1975 Nova. So those Novas used the same mirror. The replacement mirror was a mirror only with no mounting parts as you probably remember. That mirror was also standard equipment on the station wagons. I remember selling those numbers. The 1973 and up mirrors all have different numbers. Also looking in the 1972 show room albumn no remote mirror was available for the right side.

So many numbers and so little time...I've a used RH, which I believe, is for a 72 full sized Chevy. Over the years, I've had 2-72 Impalas and a 72 Caprice. I'm familiar with the large head remote, as all my cars had one.

The mirror I just acquired is a non-remote (RH) large head, matching the remote. On the gasket is P/N 9874032, on the underside of the base is 9698816 and 9973047. Glass has K-AX-73 etched at the bottom. Has a few pits, but not bad. I'm looking for $20+$5 shipping. eMail me for a pic if interested.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I would be interested in seeing the picture of the mirror. My car is a very nice 72 with only 33,000 miles and I'm looking for a really nice mirror. You can email me at: rkaufman1@wi.rr.com
Also, let me know how you want payment.

Thanks again, Roger

I forgot to mention the mtg bracket. I didn't see it listed in your parts list. Thanks

Roger, The pics are sent, so hopefully this is what you need. The base has 2 pretty heavy studs (3/16") and factory nuts and lock washers, so I'm not sure there was a bracket.

There is no bracket listed in the book for that mirror (hence the mounting studs ?)...But in th 10.186 9826886 retainer is listed. Has same model application as above mirror and left and right are the same. My guess is that it goes inside the door panel to rienforce the mounting.(studs go through it).

Thanks Gene. I found a mirror in Colorado, thru VCCA chat and it sounds like it might have mtg studs in mirror base. I'll be calling the fellow today to verify. I guess I might be wrong about the external mtg brkt. He says he has all parts, but no brkt.

RON HOLZSCHUH FROM COLORADO HAD A TAKE-OFF WHICH HE SENT PICTUES OF. IT APPEARS TO BE CORRECT, SO I'M WAITING FOR IT TO ARRIVE BY MAIL.

Hello Gene

Back to my 72 caprice mirror. Do you have any of the Chevrolet accessory installation manuals in your archives ? I'm installing the RH mirror and after drilling to two outside holes, I found an inner panel which is part of the door. I'm trying to find out what the GM procedure was for that installation.
Thanks, Roger
