I am currently well along with the above project and expect to begin work on the interior and top in the late spring to early summer.

This is a non-folding top 28 Cabriolet as was made in all of 27. The 27 had a tan top and tan vinyl interior. My 28 was obtained in the middle of a very amateur resto. However, there were some original items that had not been disturbed at the time of the restoration. 1) Olive mohair on the windshield riser panel and remnants from above one door 2) The rear panel above the package shelf was intact with remnants of the original black top with a light underside still under the male posts for the rear window.

Hampton Coach only has patterns for the convertbile, and is not especially helpful in making door panels and interior items out of the Olive mohair.

My intent is to do the top in black on tan Hartz cloth and the bows rapped with the Hartz cloth, tan side out to match the top. This would also apply to the rear inside trim and package shelf.

While, I have seen many 27's with all vinyl treatments inside and out(rear seat), it appears to me that only the rumble seat would be in black vinyl and the interior should be mohair as the Landau.

Does anyone have a first hand knowledge of the original interior of the 28 Sport Cabriolet? Would there have been a pocket on the door(s)? Comments Please.

Chief

PS. Thanks for your input on the BB-1 COE carb for the 23 Buick-I have not had a chance to check it out yet-working on the 28.

Hi cheif just a comment from Australia the General Motors Australia 1928 chevrolet Specifications dated April 1, 1928 lists the trim as Corduroy,No201-T-128 and the top as Landau Type Black Imitation Leather No 104-T-1227 there is no mention of pockets in the doors where all the other closed bodies do list pockets the cushion and squab -pleated trim-quality 7600

Here in Australia Holdens did not produce a coupe or cabriolet body but the records show an import of 14 cabriolet bodies.?so we could assume that these specs could be the same as the U.S or Canadian Bodies. on another note if you contact Jim Kirkish in CA from the club roster he has a low milage sports cabriolet that was last registered back in the 60,s and still untouched and Odel Friar from OK Has a very nice restored one ,both of these members have been very helpful to me .Jim

From your profile It appears you are not a member of the VCCA. I invite you to join this National Organization then join the Lower Michigan Region. I believe there is an owner of a 28 Cabriolet in that Region. I'm sure he will be glad to also help with your questions.

Jim/Ken

Okay, I did the details-didn't relize it was there. Jim, I spoke to J. Kirkish tonite and he was very helpful-still checking on a couple of things for me. He has removed the top and interior about 15 years ago and was a little sketchy on some items, but nonetheless, helpful.

I still want to check a couple more sources before finalizing the details. The dodr panels were olive mohair, as I suspected.
Top was black with a light underside. His seat was black, grained vinyl with 4-6" pleats(stitching). The rumble seat was also black vinyl, but smooth. He has factory photo showing the rumble seat in smooth vinyl.

Thanks,

Jim
