Three years ago, the front fenders came off but now they are a problem. Specifically, toward the fender front, there is too much space between the fender and frame. I believe my problem is how I mounted the arched fender to frame brace on the frame. That brace has two “frame mounting” holes that match frame holes. In addition, the brace has a small separate metal piece with holes that match the frame and brace. My guess is that the metal piece allows the brace to mount lower that a direct frame attachment, but before I start, I would appreciate your experience.

I recently removed my front fenders on my 29, 4-dr sedan. The small piece that you are refering to, is curved on one end. This was pointed down and mounted on the outside of the fender brace lower mounting bracket. Hope this is of help to you. JIM

Thanks, Jim but do you mount the brace with its upper most hole on the lower frame hole and the curved piece attaching to both brace holes?

The two holes in the fender brace match two holes in the frame rail and are installed with a bolt in each hole. Beginning part way through '29 production a metal reinforcing plate was used on the inside of the frame to prevent bolts being pulled through the frame holes.

It the fender does not fit the frame correctly the braces and or/fenders may be bent. A key is how well do the fender holes line up with headlight support and outside edge brace holes.

All the holes line up. However, the front splash guard, sits too high for the head light stansion bolts to clear the frame. Also, there is a gap, about the fender middle, and the gap is about a half to three quaters of an inch.

Without actually seeing the fender and fit, makes diagnosis difficult. The description makes me feel that your fenders are not the correct shape to fit the frame.

Thanks to all, especially Jim for pictures. The stanchion bolts are too short by a quarter inch, everything else matches fine. So a longer bolt is my solution.
