Just went to Yahoo, typed in "1949 chevrolet specifacations" and up come a web site "Floyd Clymers 1949 chevrolet". When I hit on it a specifacation sheet came up, I hit "The engine" and on the top it said, "Booklet provided by Gene Schneider". This man sure gets around. How long ago did you provide that book for him?

The book is available for reading on Keith Hardy's shop manual site. It can be found right here on this site also. Is been there for a few years now. I ordered the book from Clymer publications back in 1949. Also have a book comparable for 1947 Kaiser, 1947 Studebaker, 1949 Ford. There is a 1949 Mercury version but I don't have that one. Its great reading in many ways. My name will pop up in many of Kieth's manuals. He is the one to thank for all the time he has invested in scanning the paper work.

Jerry, If you do purchase this car I would advise geting from the Filling Station the 1949 Engineering Feature manual and the 1949 and 1950 Chevrolet Service News. There were a lot of problems with the early 1949 and the corrections are in the Service News. Generally speaking the later models that did not have the inside hood lock release were not too bad. Also get a shop manual...would be about $100.00 for all...Santa could deliver them. :vcca:

Do you mean a hood release from inside of the car vs. from outside? I never knew there was this difference. Mine opens from the outside.

Than you have a late 1949. The early had the hood release button under the left side of the dash like the 1940-48 cars. This change took place around June or July if I rmember correctly. Yours will also have the improved front door hinge pillar weather strip, a folding "boot" rather than conventional moulded rubber. The early cars were really leakers in this area and by the time they were a year old the inside door trim panels would be all water stained. These were jst the most obivous changes. The late had a stronger frame (lower plate on box thicker) and much stronger body roof rails and door posts.

Thanks for the posts Gene. Just shot off an email to ask him how the hood opens. He belongs to the VCCA but doesn't go to the Chat Site.
