According to my 1940 4 Cyl Master parts book, the head bolts are
1/2" X 12 U.S.S.Whilst they may appear to be 1/2" Whitworth thread(English thread,55 degree thread form angle),they are a special American thread form. They still have the 12 threads per inch the same as the English Whitworth, but the thread form angle is 60 degrees.

I have tested the new head bolts that are sold by the Filling Station. They are exact as the original bolts. Although they are the same length as the originals they should have been made 1/4 inch longer.

When using these new headbolts (or any headbolt) make sure the holes in the block are cleaned thoroughly. Dig out any debris and blow out with an air hose.

You can use more torque on these new headbolts. I suggest 65 pounds. Although you could use more, it could result in a damaged block.
