I have a 1980 malibu Classic original 305 v-8 4 speed car. It is loaded with buckets, a/c ect. I was wondering if anyone knew how many where produced that year with a four speed or where I might find that Information. The car is almost all original except the wheels and exhaust have been changed. It has only 104,000 on the clock. any info would be greatly aprecciated

Hi jasper73,

Welcome to the Chevy Chat II. We have a lot of fun here and by accident get a few things accomplished. We are glad you have chosen to visit with us.

I have been around a long time and the benchmark given for your car blew me away.

That statement doesn't jell, when back in my prime, 50,000 miles was considered the end of the row.

On well! Everything is relevant anyway.

As to your specific question, that type information is usually unavailable.

There were 278,350 Mailbu and Mailbu Classics made in 1980. 151,435 Classics, 28,425 Classic coupes and 9342 Landau coupes. 63.8 percent of all were 8 cyl. and 0.5 percent of all had 4 speeds.(US figures)

Ray, That struck me the same way. 50 years ago a car was considered junk at 100,00 miles. Today the figure would be closer to 250,000 miles.
They don't build tham like they used to :)

If it was well maintained it will be good for another 100,000 miles. My son had two of them and got up to almost 200,000 on each and they were doing fine, and they were the 229 V-6.
We have a region member that has an orange 1980 Monte Carlo. The color really makes the car stand out.

yea it was well maintained and still rides and drives like new, I fell in love with the car about 15 years ago and then it came up for sale a couple of weeks ago and I just had to have it. Now with a little TLC it will be really nice.
