I'm working on a '34 Master Coupe. I'm at bolting the sheet metal to the wood. How much clearance does one have to allow so that the ends of the bolts don't cause bumps in the headliner? Or asked another way, how close is the headliner to the bows and side rails?

Thank you, Pat

Are'nt the holes in the metal rails countersunk for the tapered head wood screws?
On my 32 coupe the are and are also higher than the wood top bows and side rails. My headliner attaches to the top bows and down to the siderails totally below the metal roof braces.

Thanks RGwiz,

I found an old piece of crown rail and rear roof rail from my parts car and they had some recesses for the bolts and nuts. They looked like someting you would do with a dado blade. My store bought parts didn't have that recess and they are mounted in the car so too late for the dado. I made recesses with a forstner bit just bigger than the washer and that should do the trick.

Takecare, Pat
