As I said in my last post; that was only my first question. My next one; is there a web site that lists vin #s to identify vehicles? My 36 Standard Town Sedan has the # 2FCO529501 on the plate attached to the passenger's floor.

Joe,

That's great! I really appreciate the information. Now If I can track it which dealership sold it here in Maryland? I know the last two owners, but that only takes me back 10 years. Maryland MVA will not disclose former owner's names.
THANKS AGAIN!

The Fisher Body tag on the firewall will give more body info. Your May car should have the all steel doors. If so the body number will end in Z.

Chevgene,

Yes, the body number does end in Z. At what point in 36 did they eliminate the wood? I know there is some wood in the body on this car, you can see it when you pull the floor mat back to uncover the battery box.

The only change is the front doors of Standard 2 and 4 doors were ade completely of steel. All the other body wood remained the same. The cowl area was mostly steel but wood used extensivly for the rest. Isn't all bad if it is not rotted. Made for a very solid and quiet sounding body.
There is a advantage to the steel doors. They are lighter than the wood doors thus do not tend to sag as much. That can be a problem with the long doors on a 2 door. The 1935 Master and all 1936 cars were the first to have a steel floor. It wasn't welded to the rest of the body as the '37 was but rather bolted and nialed to the wood sills. Strange. The 1936 Chevrolet was the only low priced car to have a steel roof but still had a wood rienforced body. Same for all 1936 GM cars.
The 1936 Standard did have the new box section frame design that Chevrolet used through 1954. Was an odd mixture of old and new. Made for a lighter car with an easier drive line to service.
