Does anyone know where I can get a "new" in the box vacuum assist shift kit. My 42 had the vacuum shift removed when I purchased the car and I would like to put vacuum shift back on the car. I have been watching ebay but no luck as well as G and D.

Thanks for any leads.

There is no such thing as a "kit"....The cylinder can be purchased but you may need many more parts, depending on what was removed. You would almost need to find a street rodder that is installing a different drive line in a 1941-48 car.

I have a spare transmission that looks like it has a top cover and possibly some linkage for a vacuum shift. I won't need the cover as my car doesn't have vacuum shift. I can't recall what's there but maybe some parts you could use. PM me and I'll send a photo.

I have a couple laying around here if you need one. You will have to get the boot though. I know one works for sure as it came off my '46. I replaced it with an NOS one I bought for peanuts. If you want it's yours. Just send me your address and I'll send it to you. Don't know what the postage would be so when ya get it you'll see what it is. That's good enough.
If you need a pic of it just PM me your email addy and I'll send you a pic.

Sounds like 46aero has a good deal for you. Many of these units were taken off because of the lack of maintenance and the shop manual has good directions on how to service the unit. Of course you'll need the steel vacuum connection to the manifold and the original shift linkage. Also the complicated lever which is on the transmission side shifting mechanism. And the hose that connects to the unit and the pipe from the manifold has to be very flexible because it travels with the movable part of the vacuum unit. Probably the other thing you'll need is still there on the frame. It's the intake filter which is connected to the unit by a second hose. I bought a NOS unit long ago and it didn't work as well as the one I bought for a buck at the swap meet....Convertibles have a different steel pipe routing and another short steel line in the hookup. This is to avoid binding or hangups with the X frame...
