Got another question about my 261...
I want to put a automatic trans on this 261 using a starter adapter plate kit.
I also want to change the engine mounts from (1 front, 2 rear) to (2 front, 1 rear)like newer engines are mounted.

I see there are spots where it appears that I can drill (see the arrows) and thread for mounting bolts.
Is this a good idea to be drilling out these things?
If so, how deep is the max I can go?
I think this will work fine, but I will have to make custom brackets. :(

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I have a 261 mounted with a 700r4 trans . Bufflo enterprise has a steel adapter plate. Uses the front engine mount and trans mount in back. Seems like along distance between mounts but I have over 10,000 mile on this setup.

I would talk to Patrick before I bought any adapter plates or worked on shop built motor mounts.

47,

57 Steve MAY be referring to Buffalo Restorations. They're in Puyallup, WA (near Seattle/Tacoma).

Here's a link ....

I've bought and sold stuff from them. The head guy is simply called "Buffalo." I can't say I know him real well; but he seems like a real good guy. He's always been very fair with me. Also, he seems real knowlegable about older Chevies. He was at the Natl Meet in Rapid City in 1996, so I presume he's a VCCA member.

Here is a link to "Buffalo Enterprises" which I don't think is the same as the "Buffalo Restorations" listed above:

Thats the right place . The head guy was called Buffalo. Patricks is who gave me his number. He seemed to know what I wanted to do and even took the time to copy a couple old magazine articals and hand drew a few. He also told me about the steam holes in the 261 and to drill the 235 head to use on the 261.I would like to hear more about this project.

Yep! The head dude is Steve Stribling but he has been known as "Buffalo" for decades.

Interesting. I just "assumed" Buffalo Restorations was the place "we" were looking for. I know he's also 'big' in the inliners group. So, seeing the link Skip posted to Buffalo Enterprises with the 'inliners' included makes it clear to me that the 'Buffalo' place you want is the Enterprises one.

I wouldn't know his real name if I heard it. I've just always known him as Buffalo.

And both of these Buffalo places are in the Seattle area. Can you beat that?!?

Well, sorry for creating the (any) confusion. Must have been that old "assume" problem....

Bill.
