The indexing pin on my 374A distributor sheared off today leaving me stranded. I can move the cam axially further than I would expect appox. .100 inch, and being that I already have a non original configuration, 28 block with an early single exhaust port head, is there any advantage to installing a 28 semi-automatic distributor or should I rebuild or replace with another 374A?

Hi, You have the arrangement backwards. Usually you find an early block with the 28 head. You are missing the extra pep by not using a 28 head. However, as to the distributor, you should be running a 635-B.

I would be looking for a 1928 head to take advantage of the larger valves and the 1 for 2 rocker arms.
