Over the years I have had a number of cars where the clutch would engage "a couple of inches" from the floor. My '41 does not engage until it is "almost fully released", a couple of inches close to fully released. I have had my mechanic look at it a couple of times and he seems to think that this is as good as it gets. Is this normal?

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

The correct adjustment is determined by the free play. The free play is the free feeling motion on top of the pedal travel. Using your hand (which is more sensitive) you should feel about 3/4" to 1" of very easy travel before more resistance can be felt. This is important as if no free play exists it indicates that the throw out bearing is always "spinning" - which is not good. If free play is OK and clutch dosen't slip under power your in good shape. :)
