Was there a change in the scooper design around 1948 from the origianl 1937 one? I thought it was changed to allow more oil on the connecting rod journals to accompany the change (a decrease) in the rod bearing clearance?
If so, does any one know what the details of this change were? I know the height of the scooper could not change as it is controlled to provide the correct debth of scoop into the oil trough. So two other possible parameters to change where the width (opening of the mouth of the scoop) or the angle the scoop approaches the end of the con rod? Anybody know the details here? I want to put the best scoops on my 216 baby. Mike

The mouth of the dipper was enlarged (widened) considerably in the late '40's....if you can find a set of genuine Chevrolet dippers with the part #3835662 it will be the improved version. They will replace the dippers back to 1937.

What makes these newer style dippers "better" rather than just "different"?
Maybe the wider opening allows more tolerance for poorly aimed oil nozzles?

Yes, they make a larger target to catch the oil. Seeing the dippers should be replaced after several "nut tightenings" the late style should be selected....When I adjust rods I do it with out the dippers to reduce the galling of the nut on the dipper.
