I wouldn't think so, since I recall stereo fm broadcasts/stations weren't approved until the early '60s, along with the 2-track, 4-track, & later, 8-track tape machines...so what would have been the use in having a stereo radio in '55. even if available?.. epi

In 1955 cars did not even have FM radio. Versions of stereo did not become available till the late '60's if that soon.1968 was the first year for Chevrolet.

My bet is he had a rear seat speaker and called it stereo. My first car with sterio was a 1970 Buick. The stereo was split front to rear, rather than the conventional left to right.

It seems to me that 1968 was the first year for Chevrolet Stereo and you had a "multiplexer" in order to play FM Stereo" My first Stereo was a modified Hi-Fi (remember those?)with a stereo cartridge in the turntable and a bunch of stuff including several speakers in boxes.....and a reel to reel, it covered an entire wall, Then came 8 Track. I probably have a 8 track recorder along with my CB base station, with SSB a Turner sidkicker power mike and the underdash Authur Fulmer 8 track player stashed up in the loft, along with a couple of cases of 8 track music. Carpenters, Elton John, Johnny Cash, The Beetles, Baja Marimba band, Boots Randolph, Ace Cannon. etc.

Your Dad probably had a "Signal Seeking" Radio in the Caddy! Had a foot switch to change the stations? or to switch between "Town & Country". That would be my best guess, eh!
