The following is from my buddy Steve Kassis at the Filling Station:

Hello Chevy Fans,

We have just been notified of a huge increase (about 60%) on the honeycomb radiator cores we sell. This will move our retail from the current $599.50 to around $975.00 per core. The price change will take effect after our next order, which we plan to do in the next 30-60 days. I am sending this notice to you in hopes that you might know someone that has been thinking about getting a reproduction core, but has not yet ordered one. Now is the time! We cannot offer a discount on the current price, but ordering now will be a substantial savings over the new prices coming in fall.

Our supplier has been forced to make this increase due to the world price of copper and increased labor and freight costs. At least they have given us advanced notice so we have an opportunity to get in before the increase. Orders received prior to our next shipment will be at the current price.

Please pass this along to anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks,
Steve

:o wink :)

Thanks for the heads-up Skip!

Now how do I talk the wife into giving me an early Christmas present and birthday present that will count for the next 10 years?

I have 2 original ones...what do you think the odds are of being able to clean them out and use them...from what I have read here it sounds like the odds are slim or none at best...

I would give you a better chance of rescuing your honeycomb radiators than any of the pressureized type especially those since 1988 with a 20lb cap.

in our part of the us most radiators increased in price a while back . most radiator shops in our area will not touch a honeycomb core may be too much libality the core can be roded out i have done it but most of the time that is not the problem it is the way they are constructed when the solder that hold the cells together oxidizes the heat transfer is lost sort of like taking the fins off a tube core and if you get a tube leak it is hard to repair i guess that is why the shop shy away from them .after all most of the originals are close to 80 years old .
