Hey 53, nice looking Belair. I am in th process of buying a 4 door 53. The lady I am getting her from is 71 years old and can't handle the steering and clutch any more. She is a member of our VCCA club and has owned the car for 15 years. The man who she bought this car from was the original owner and was also a VCCA member. Check her out. Thanks...Oscar http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/349356639.html

Looking good! I see you have both the skirts and bloomers on your '53. I was currious to know how they would look. I was maybe considering both for mine someday. And again, thanks for the help!!

Bloomers -
the add on trim that runs along the bottom of the car.... from the gravel guard back to the rear bumper. Not my favorite visual. Some thought 'fashionable' back in the day.

Hey Oscar, I don't mean to give you a load of manure, but 3 on the tree's 53 sedan is a 210. I'll bet you were thinking of the Bel Air you're all excited about and probably just "slipped" by calling 3 on the tree's a Bel Air also.....

Hey 53 on the tree, Good work on posting the pix. You're way ahead of me on that score. Congrats on the new acquisition. There's always something to do unless a guy buys a ka-jillion dollar restored car. The nice thing is you can work on it and use it and have fun with it all at the same time. That really isn't bloomers, the previous owner (a 21 year old body shop owner) applyed the stainless trim to the lower part to give the car a different look, I left it on and will take it off when I redo the paint job in a couple of years.

Hey Oscar,
Maybe I'm getting confused with all the 53 talk lately.....
But I thought you called his 53 a Bel Air. His is actually a "210." That was the middle of the line model in 1953. It's actually sort of an abbreviation for Chevy's Model Number which was 2100.
Whereas the one you're thinking about is indeed a Bel Air.
Clear as mud???
Bill.

Thanks for the lesson Bill. You had me sweating bullets. I am new to this hobby and what is so cool about it is that you learn something if not more then something every day. I am really excited about this BELAIR I am trying to get. I didn't sleep much last night and I know I won't sleep much tonight. Is this normal or is it just me being excited. I hope you all have been through this and I'm not crazy. Thanks...Oscar

Oscar,
I presume most of us feel the excitement you're talking about and not sleeping, etc when we're thinking about buying a car. So NO, you're definitely NOT crazy. Very normal, at least in my view.
Frankly, that's why I'm always advising guys to try and get past that "excitement." Advising them to be as "honest" or as "logical" as possible about the car. You know my old phrase about all this - - "ice water in the veins."
Anyway, just do the "up close and personal" stuff and I bet you'll be just fine.
As for the lesson....
Maybe I should have gone into more detail. As mentioned, the '210' was/is the middle of the line. It's not exactly an abbreviation of 2100. It's more precise to say all of the middle of the line models had a number in the 2100's. For instance, the two door sedan was 2102. The four door sedan was 2103. The club coupe was 2124. The Bel Air was simply called Bel Air, even tho the model numbers were in the 2400's. The "One Fifty" (150), which was the low(est) price model was the same idea as the 210. For instance, 1502 was the two door sedan. And the 1503 was the four door sedan.
Believe me, I don't know these numbers by heart. (I had to check 'em in a book.) But I do know the basic concept of 150, One-Fifty, (1500 numbers) and 210, Two-Ten, (2100 numbers).
Bill.

Hi All, (new here)..I painted a 80yo ladies house recently, and found a 1951 Fleetline Deluxe in her garage, that I bought. The tranny was leaking all over, and it is in the shop now. I was there today, and was told I'd need a new tranny mount, that would cost $100.00,,!! Is that true? really that much?

Yes, transmission mounts can be that expensive. The Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon sells theirs for between $83 and $88, plus shipping, so $100 does not seem out of line. Good luck with your project and welcome to Chevy Chatter! :)

Hey! Grease Monkey, good looking 210. I have one of those also. Mine does not look as good as yours, it is black and in need of body work and paint. It runs good and is powerglide, drives great. MrMack showed a picture of my 53 Red Belair 4 door sedan we recently got body work and paint, new upholstery makeover. I am still working to get everything to work and hooked up. But glad to see someone preserving the old chevys.
