Am rebuilding my 1926 roadster windscreen frame and would like to replace bottom section. Does anyone know of a source for windscreen frames either made up or extrusion only.?

Ok I'm feeling ignored. Was my question too stupid. Has nobody ever had to replace a rusted out windscreen frame on a tourer or roadster. Do you guys make replacements out of plydough or do they never rust out in the USA. Would it help if I said I was fitting it to a surge braked car trailer. I know that Peter Jackson in australia used to advertise windscreen frame material by the metre. Do any of you ausies know if PJ's or Auto Rubber still supply this. Are Model T or A screens made of the same stuff.?? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi bopnz,
Most cars in the usa are closed cars not open top like ours, probably why no one replied.Suggest you advertise in Restored Cars or the like or watch Ebay Australia.Occasionally one comes along and you may be able to graft them together. There is a difference between the 27 to 28 chevs but not sure from 25/6/7.Jackson is back making panels again and of good quality like normal.Spectrum rubber took over Jacksons original business some years ago so maybe both can help.I have Jacksons number and address. He now trades as Old Era Services P.O.Box 3048 Llandilo NSW 2747.email oldera@jackson-s.com.Ph 0245725621.
Spectrum rubber advertises in Restored cars.
See how you go.

Peter Jackson has moved to the country. He is still making parts and his email address is still operating, or so he told us. Peter actually owns an original 26 tourer so he has the part in front of him.
Is your car a Fisher bodied car or a Holden body? I have never repaired a frame but a friend of mine did repair a 29 frame which was very difficult as a long, light piece like that tended to wander all over the place. He found that he had to screw it down while he worked on it.
I am about to head overseas for a month or so but I have friends with 27 Holden bodied tourers. I will ask and see what they may suggest. Terry H

the open car windscreen extrusions were supplied by Ellis Barron in 320 Neapean highway Frankston 3199 Victoria his ph number was 03 7832009, I have not seen or heard of this man for a number of years now and he was getting on in years .I have also seen his work as he reproduced screen frames for a lot of different cars over the years and it was first class ,PJ use to sell these extrusions .

Thanks ozy neighbours for info - found PJ's web site -= appears he is closed until october - will try him then. NZ is obviously same as OZ with very few closed cars prior to 1928. May roadster is, I believe holden bodied but not 100% sure. I think chevs were first assembled in NZ in 1926 using aus sourced panels but someone out there my have a better idea. I note in an old PJ catalogue that there is a warning that some aus panels are different to NZ so possibly some NZ panels came directly from US or Canada.
thanks for the help.

Hi

I have a 27 & 28 Chev touring, and I have been searching for a 28 lower half - just missed one on EBay but it went too hgh.
The Filling Station in Lebanon Or US have them in their catalogue for both 27 & 28. I tried them but the 28 is no longer available but they can get the 27's.
1. 27 is differnet then 28 & probably different then earlier ones also
Chev open cars were not made by Fisher.
I have several frames I have found at swap meets -none fit so I am putting together one from my stack of parts.
Alot of early chevs in Australia were made here in Oshawa Ont Canada.

Bopnz their is a difference in the U.S and Australian open cars the U.S cars used the same front doors on the roadster and the Touring where the Holden bodies the roadster has a longer door by approx 2" .
Don you are right there was a lot of parts manufactured in canada I have a parts book and beside the part number it lists the country that the part was manufactured. There was also a rare option a one peice windscreen . Did you have these too more common on the 1927 than the 28's and most cars fitted with them have the canadian cowl with the presses section for the lassing instead of the aluminium section .

Thanks for the feed back guys. Just an update on the windscreen frame.

I have managed to get some brass windscreen frame extrusion from a local supplier but he tells me I have just bought his last two 1.8m lengths and that all future imports will be aluminum as the brass is nolonger being made. The supplier he uses is based in England and apparently the hot rodders go through miles of this stuff.
With regard to holden vs US roadster panels I was interested in the difference in the aus doors. I have never seen a wide roadster door in NZ. I presume this means the rear side panels boot etc are completely different to US panels. Were Aussies much bigger people in the 1920s?
