Hello all, just a quick question.Does anyone know if the shift indicator on a 53 PG was lighted?Just curious...it sure would be nice if it was!! Thanks for the help in advance! BTW I have only owned this car for 5 months and I am enjoying the heck out of driving it even with the little quirks it has.......later

Hey Dave,

I just happen to have one right next to me. Bought it 25 (?) yrs ago for $10 bux. Never did install it on my '54. For all I know it's a $100 item now.

Just FYI: "Indicator Lamp Tramsmission Control" Group No. 4.038. Part No. 986999.

Further, I presume mine is for a '54 and also presume '53 and '54 would use the same part.

Bill.

Hi Dave,

As I mentioned in my post, I presume the same part would be used on both 53's and 54's. I don't really know. "We" should leave that for someone more knowledgeable. I suppose someone with a 'parts book' could tell in a heart beat in that I listed the info on the box of the one I have....

My Accessory book list 986999 as a pwerglide indicator lamp only for 1954. That may just mean it wasn't offered until 1954.

It will "work" on a 1953 as all parts were the same.

Thanks for confirming what I presumed, Gene. (We all know that 'assume' saying!!)

Anyway, Dave understands the one I have basically isn't for sale. If anybody has one they'd like to sell, I'm sure Dave would like to hear about it.....

Dave, This has to be the absolute worst website on the internet. I just spent 15 minutes responding to your questions and offering you an N.O.S. unit for $45 and then this crappy-[bleeped] website lost it all. Quite similar to the below average old-car magazine that VCCA allows the CA goons to control.

Tom,

A bit more seriously, I see you're pretty new to the site. Apparently you've made two posts. The one where you express dis-satisfaction with this site and the one about the 53 Bel Air wheelcovers @ $100 each. All I can say is I've made around 3000 posts fairly successfully. I don't recall having 'difficulty' posting in here when I was new to the site. And I generally consider myself to be a computer dummy. If you have any questions about how the site 'works,' feel free to ask. I could try to answer your questions. Altho that might be better handled by someone who is more "computer-oriented" than I am.

About your comments re the VCCA pub - Generator and Distributor. All I can say is I've enjoyed it for around 30 years. Certainly some (monthly) issues are better than others. You don't list a VCCA number in your profile. If you're a member, maybe you could improve the G and D by contributing to it. Afterall, all the publishers do is 'publish' it. It is a contributor-driven publication. So, only the contributors can make it 'better.'

On the other hand, if you're not a member, you could join the VCCA and then go about offering your suggestions on how to improve things, including the monthly magazine. Maybe even run for office in a local region or the nat'l board and so on.

Basically this whole VCCA thing (including the G and D, this site and so on) is up to "us." Not "them." Whoever the "them" might be....

Take care, Tom.

Tom , as moderator of this site, I regret that you have had a problem with our site but the goons here had nothing to do with your problems and hope you have better results on another crappy site. I can see nothing about your post that should be of any use to any one that surfs in looking for information, please try another venue to vent your frustrations in the future.

Hi Tom,

I have checked your profile and all it reveals is that you are located in Colorado. Doesn't really give us a basis to tell if you are serious or just pumping us. Just wondered what was the basis for the negative report on the G&D? Just hope that you have not thrown a rock and then ran away to hide.

Just FYI, if you look in the most recent Roster, there is indeed a Tom Wertenberger listed in Colorado; and further, he lists ownership of four 1953's. His membership number would indicate that he joined VCCA in the summer of 1989.

I think he was just having a bad day. He has replied to other threads since and seems like a nice guy. :)
