In the latest addition of the G&D the explained the new CDPC class for 2008. I have a couple of questions. First it says that "Radial tires mounted on original style wheels" would be excepted. How about the wheels. I have a 63 all stock except the aftermarket wheels. Does that mean it would not qualify? I know of many other that are in the same situation. Would after market wheels disqualify you? Retiredken Ken Scott Kenscott62@juno.com

Points should be deducted for non-original wheels.

Hey Ken,

Maybe I don't understand your question....

But, it's my thinking after-market wheels wouldn't "disqualify" a car / your car. But, I agree with Skippy, points should be deducted for after-market wheels.

Gents -

You have missed an even bigger 'Point." There are no "points" in CDPC! The car is 'Certified" - not 'Judged.'

I am not certain of exactly where the final language is ending up on this 'point' (wheels). I believe the idea as originally expressed would be that the car must certify in all 4 areas (interior, exterior, eng compartment, undercarriage), and the language about "stock appearing wheels / wheelcovers" was intended to disqualify a car running on - for example - Cragars, or something like that. There was further discussion, for instance putting Rallye wheels on a car not offered with them orignally. But it was going to be OK if slightly wider wheels were used, as long as stock hubcaps were mounted, etc. Not sure yet where they have ended up with this.

Hello...new member here. I have been reading, with interest, the threads on the CDPC. Maybe it is because I am so new to the club, but I find the judging topics very confusing.

Please correct me as needed. VCCA has two certification classes for member cars:
HPOCF Historic Preservation of Original Chevrolet Features
CDPC Chevrolet Driver Participation Class

Is there not a class that recognizes retiredken's '63 ?

Thanks,
Jeff Newhouse

Hello again TXWagon! I like your Avatar. WELCOME TO VCCACHAT!!!
Jeff there is always questions about any new addition to classes when you go for an official certification tag, etc. there are arbitary rules that may be adjusted by the organization. If the car isn't certified that does not mean that the car is not welcome at our events, Well anyway those that I choose to attend. If there is a time when I attend a VCCA event and one of my Chevrolets is deemed to be unwelcome, by the officials doing the event, I won't plan to attend that event the next time it is held......no argument, no hard feelings.........

Hey MrMack. I downloaded the judging manual from the VCCA site. Maybe that will help me better understand the classes and judging process.

Your post above is not correct. You ask if there are two classes: HPOCF, and CDPC.

No - there is a third Class, which is the Original - plain old "Class Judging" - which is where the car is 'point judged' to earn a First Junior, then First Senior, etc.

Jeff did ask if there were 2 CERTIFICATION classes. Which are an entirely differentprocess than class judging.

Just like Don said there are 2 certification classes and the one that is Class Judging the original VCCA competition judging process with classes, points deducted for imperfections, starting with a perfect 1000 points. Cars pass thru several classes in competion with other cars at different shows and meets.

The two Certification classes receive a Certification if the car passes inspection, no competition with other cars is involved. You pass of fail according to the rules of the HPOCF and the CDPC in several denoted catagories.

Any way that has been my understanding after attending a VCCA judging school or two and reading the VCCA Judging Handbook and The G&D for several years, I seem to learn something new ever year about the process. Now I know just enough to be dangerous!

I stand corrected.

It is accurate to say that there are TWO classes of Certification. And there is a THIRD class of participation, which is Class Judging (which is not a form of Certification, it is a form of judging).

"Classes" might be a poor choice of words here. Maybe "categories of participating."

Now I'll completely confuse you - beginning next year, there will be a FOURTH category of participation, which you have been seeing hints of in the G&D. This will be the Touring category. More on this in the August President's Message. But this type of participating in VCCA events - Touring - will be truly wide open. It will welcome, for instance, a 1996 (yes 96) Impala SS, or a 2005 SSR (of course, some Tours are for specific year-groups of cars - i.e., The 4 Cylinder Tour is for 1912-1928 only). If it is a (reasonably) stock Chevrolet, 1912-2007, it can participate on VCCA sanctioned Tours, and earn an Oval upon reaching certain threshholds of accumulated mileage levels. No Certifying or Judging involved.

We want to continue to expand the available menu of activites and ways to participate and be recognized in the VCCA - important - without compromising any of the existing types of functions that we have provided for many years.

And as has been much talked about in other threads - the VCCA is about Stock Chevrolets - we are not a street rod club, nor are we going to become one.

It does sound a bit confusing, Don. But I'm figuring it will all work out when "we" understand it better.

Congrats on putting forth great effort to keep us informed.....

Well this is Ken Again. I am not sure my question was answered or understude. So I will try again. In 2008 They are going to be using the CDPC class (Chevrolet drivers participation class) This class was outlined in the July G&D) I have been a head judge and am fully aware of the HPOCF class and the Orgininal 1000 points class. The HPOCF class is not a points class but a car must qualify in 2 of the four areas. (HPOCF judging sheet available on line at this web sight) The new CDPC class will start in 2008 will be evaluated much in the same way, no points just a check of sytem. and I am going to be a head judge at our NW meet in 2008. We are going to have a judging school there at that time and maybe I can get the answer I need. If you can read artical IV page 18 in July G&D and see how you interpuret it. Tires Ok Wheels???? I have also asked Steve Scott but no answer yet Ken

Let me comment based on many years experience with "new" stuff. Despite the best intentions, thinking and work once the CDPC Class is "rolled out" there will be some problems that require intrepretation and application of 'common sense'. Most people will be understanding, frustrated and confused but a few will go ballastic. After a couple of years all will be worked out and most will be happy. So I am only concerned with the concept (not too concerned about the details) until the new class has "weathered the storm".

I was the Team Captain of one of the first HPOCF teams. It was a learning experience for all of us, team, owner, Judging Committee but we got through it without any loss of life.
