What is the capacity of the gas tank in a '37 4 door sedan??

Did all '37 models have the same gas tank??

Thanks for any help...

The 1937 sedans have a 14 Gal. tank. The business coupe and sedan delivery have a 18 Gal. tank. The 1940 sedans were the first to have a 16 Gal. tank.

Thanks for the answer and the extra info Gene.

If a guy wanted a larger (than 14 gallon) capacity tank in a sedan, do you have any suggestions?

Any chance the coupe or SD delivery 18 gallon tank would fit ??

The 14 gallon tank was at the rear of the car. Its filler is on the rear right fender. The coupe 18 gallon tank is behind the seat and the filler is in the right quarter panel. It's a horizontal tank....

Thanks, Joe. I'm presuming the biz coupe and SD 18 gallon tank(s) won't work in my ( 4 dr )sedan due to wrong configuration, filler neck and so on. In retro-spect, I guess I knew that. Apparently I wasn't thinking clearly. Maybe Ron's guys or Steve's guys will have some ideas for me about a bigger tank. Maybe after-market. Does anybody have any experience with this??

As for the current 14 gallon tank, it seems like on a good day 250 miles would be the MAX limit. Maybe even less....

Has anybody around here put a larger capacity gas tank in a '37 sedan???

If so, any tips, hints, advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

I was prepared to pay a local fabricator to make a tank for my 38 bus. coupe then was able to save my original so I didn't have to. I'm sure a fabricator in your area could do the same.

Bill,
I don't know if you are interested in a polyethylene tank or not. If so www.tanksinc.com has a 16 1/2 gallon for 1937.
Check their web site they build all kinds of tanks. I have used their products and have no complaints.

Thanks for your ideas Tiny and dandyd. I'm looking for something even bigger than 16.5. I can check with local distributors of Tanks Inc products. They may have some ideas.

If you other guys have any ideas, please let me know.

Thank you.

Bill.
