I own a 1941 military 4x4 G506 4x4 truck. I replaced the 216 with a 1958 vintage 235.

Now, I am at a stage where I need to find or have built an exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold onward.

The 216 exhaust pipe routing straight down, as the exahust manifold was such that it exited directly downward, and routed in front of the steering box, then made a right turn back to the muffler. Simple.

the 235 exhaust manifold is on a 45 degree backwards, meaning a new routing needed. But, it tight near the sterring gear box.

Now, I cant simply teke this to my local muffler shoip as is. I need to build it on the garage, or have one made that fots and install at home before I can move this beast

my qestions are these:

First, can I simply buy SOMEWHERE a stock exhaust pipe for a 235 later application, perhaps for like a 57 chevy truck or other make, right of the shelf (hopefully)

If so, anyone have source and part number?

My guess is the popular 57 chevy series of trucks just HAVE to have a exhaust pipe avaialbe from many of the specialty houses, however I can find one looking thru Jim Carter, Old Chevy and the rest of the links I know of.

Or

Did any of you have to have one custom made at like Mienike Muffler?

If so, and if you would not mind, can you get me some dimensions of how you did yours?

I know it must route behind the steering box, but whats the distance it goes straight, say, then makes the first turn down, and for how long.

I know I can have one made up locally, but i want to make sure I tell them the right measurments.

What size pipe? IS the mounting flange to manifold anything special?

thanks All!

Dave

sorry... I though some folks might check certai nsections and not others, so I thought I would post in locations that seems applicable.

Thanks for the advise and idea. However , I would prefer to get a new exhaust pipe over doing all that work! You must be a skilled welder!!

Dave,
No harm intended.....just 'funning' with you!!

No, I'm not a skilled welder, although I'm getting better. I do have a good friend that's been welding for 50+ years, so I trade favors when I get to something requiring the "skilled" level !!
