Working on my 28 Capital. I Took the frame to be sandblasted. Noticed that the heavier solid rods that the lighter rods attach to (the ones that cross the frame) need some help when they go through the frame. I am not sure what was used to reduce friction in this area. It seems to me that there should be some sort of bushing or fitting where this goes through the frame to make things work smoother and easier. What I observe now is a dried out metal lever that should have some sort of lubrication. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Don

The rods connect to this shaft. The shaft runs like a cross member... across the frame. It then goes through the frame and connects to more rods that work the front brakes.

It seems to me that there should be some sort of bushing with a grease fitting between the hole in the frame and the rotating shaft to reduce drag. I only know that the current mechanism needs a lot of TLC.

Troublesome Don.

Take a closer look at Arvids picture. This shows what is OUTSIDE the frame rail. Is this not what you are talking about?

I think that part of the confusion is the expression "through the frame). The rods do NOT go through the frame, but are held on each end by brackets that are attached TO the frame.
