I just finished rebuilding my 1954 235 and installed it in my 1949 3600. The motor appears to be running great, but I noticed a small amount of black oily drops coming out of the tailpipe. Not much, but enough to make me wonder if I've got trouble brewing. Could it be that the rings haven't seated yet. I've only got about 25 miles on the motor since the rebuild. Any ideas on what might be happening.

You likely have some oil plus carbon and water in the exhaust system. I would not be concerned unless excessive (more than a quart per 1000 miles) oil consumption continues past the break-in period. When a rebuilt engine is first started oil used in the assembly and initial lubrication will find it way into the exhaust system.

Scott, I believe we have forgotten just how much water drips out of the tail pipe on old cars without catalytic converters. My cars will leave a trail of water for the first few minutes of warm up and pulling out of the driveway. At times the water is black looking as it picks up carbon dust from the muffler. Go out and drive it for 20 miles to get the muffler dried out and break-in the rings. Sounds as if you have no problem. :)
