All 1931 passenger car rear fenders are the same, so they are not exclusive to the cabriolet only. The Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon has the 1931 passenger car rear fenders in steel. They are $325 each. yipp yipp yipp

I'll take two!

By the way...what is the 2" x 1/4" (approx.) slot for at the top of both fenders?

I bought a set of rear fenders, and they are excelent, and I was glad to get them the ones that were on the car were not very good at all. The price that you would have to pay for a good used fender will surprise you and than you have hours and hours of work in it to make it look good. I am on a budget like every one else is when it comes to restoring our Chevrolets. Good luck.

I believe that the slot was used to support the fender when it was dipped in paint and cured in an oven. Never figured out any other reason for it.

Yeah, Chipper.
I never figured it might be for painting. They could have just used the bolt holes for that.
It looks to me like they might be for drainage? My car is never out in the rain, but maybe the water runs right over that spot.

Next dumb question: What bolt hole does the small brace mount to towards the rear? I've seen them in different locations at shows. Also mounted straight up, straight down, and on an angle.

The small fender brace is mounted on the eighth hole back from the front of the fender, and it is installed on an angle. Also, I have a rear 1931 fender and there is no notch at the top on that particular fender. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Oopps...sorrry,
I was talking about a 32 fender. They are different...correct?
But thanks for the location of that brace. I should have also asked the location of the sharply bent end. Is it up and if so bent inwards or outwards? Does it meet the curve of the fender?
Lots of questions for an itty bitty thing!

Well now...? How many other guys have the slots in their '32 rear fenders?
(or is this another topic)?

both of my 32 fenders have the slot in the top. i wondered too why they are there as water could drain just down the curve of the fender.

Do ya think it could have been used to insert a tool to pull the fender welt tight when they snugged up the fender bolts?????

I have what i believe are 2 rear fenders for a 31 chev. They came with my car in June when i purchased it. They need to be restored. They do have rust through on both, but are restorable
