I am trying to restore an oil filter to add to my '51. I bought a unit at a swap meet which was still attached to a manifold w/carb (matching mine), so I assumed it was perhaps an AC. It uses a bolt to unscrew the cap versus a wing bolt. Anyway, I painted it blue with an orange cap, and am now ready for decals. The photo's I have seen in previous postings show "AC Kleer Kleen L1", but the decals offered for sale show "AC Oil Filter S-6". Are these replacement decals appropriate? Thanks for any help offered.

We have had a lot of posts over the years here on Chevy Chatter concerning the by-pass oil filters like you are describing. The AC S-6 decals that I have seen look pretty good. Your 1951 would not have had an AC Kleer Kleen Oil Filter as AC had discontinued that model in the late 1940's.

The correct decal for a 1950-62 AC blue and orange oil filter is in the Filling Station catalog. Their #SA-83A.Their description "AC - blue letters - 5 1/4" OD around - decal for canister lid. I have never seen their decal but by their description it matches the letters stenciled on the lid of my oil filter. Note the diameter mentioned. If the filter is of another brand and smaller in size it will not fit on the raised rim around the outside/top of the lid.
