Why do you own your Chevrolet?
What's so special?
Why not a different make?

Just interested, that's all!

Me?

When I saw it I smiled!
I was looking for something different, as far as I know it's the only 1928 Utility in the UK.

I grew up with Chevrolets. My father owned a Model T Ford when I was born.Thats because during the depression that was the lowest priced used car that you could find. His father had a 1918 and later a new 1927 Chevrolet.
The first car that I can remember my father having was a 1927 Chevrolet. Then came a 1931, 1934, and 1942.Most of my uncles had Plymouths and Dodges but I was raised thinking that Chevrolets were better. They were less expensive to repair, started in cold or damp weather, and did not require a rebuilt engine every 35,000 miles as Chrysler products did.
And with the knee-action front suspension they rode better. The bodies didn't sound as tinny...could it have been the wood? Also they had the best resale value and were easy to sell used.
I guess you would need to say that my father was a Chevrolet fan.In 1950 he became a Chevrolet salesman Just what the doctor ordered. My first car was a 1939, then a 1941. 1949. 1950,new 1953,1955 and 1957.A used 1958, 1959, 1961.Then had a company car furnished so I got to drive new Chevrolets again.Did have some short term Olds 88's in be tween but always went back to a Chevrolet.
In the later years I have gone with late model used Oldsmobiles and Buicks as they are the same as a Chevrolet but easier to find with all the goodies. At present have a Pontiac Montana and an older Buick Roadmater but they both have Chevrolet engines. When I bought my first Olds wagon in 1984 and no longer owned a modern Chevrolet felt-well kind of lost. This no longer bothers me.
My five kids all own either a Chevrolet or a related GM car except one.Along with an Olds van he has a Jap.a German and a Sweed. car.

I guess you would have to say that I was brought up in Chevrolets and have been associated with them almost all of my life.Worked for a Chevrolet dealer for 27 years and owned vintage Chevrolets for the last 37 years. What else is there?.....

Hey K-S...

A Chevy was my first car ('53) and Chevys were the coolest and best cars in the '50s...IMHO.

Back then when you went to the dealership on that special night when the dealers showed the new models nothing could complete with Chevys. Who else had cars like the Corvette to show off to little and big boys and later the 283ci = 283hp and the stying of the 50s?

Cars can smell out a car lover and follow them home, I am one of those poor souls. I have a big monster animal that lives near me and she is my protector. She runs off all of the cars that follow me home except for a few Chevrolets, That is why I have seven, counting the one GMC that the monster animal thinks is also a Chevrolet.... bigl chevy ok

My situation is similar to Gene's in that I guess you'd say I got "it" from my father. Seems like I just figured my dad knew the score with cars. The first car I remember he had was a Black 47 Coupe. Then he had a 54, 58, 63, 73, 84 and he now has a 95 Caprice.

My first car in 1960 was a 55 2 door post. Then a 59 Corvette in 1962. Along the way I've had 15-20 Chevys from the 1940's, 50's, 60's. Also 5-6-7 70's Chevys like Monte Carlos (72 and 74), Chevelles (70 and 72), a 71 Impala convertible and a 76 L82 Corvette. Also had a 41 Cadillac Coupe with a Chev 427 engine. And just a few non-Chevys. Three Pontiacs: 64 Catalina, 69 Bonneville Coupe (the ONLY new car I've ever purchased) and a 70 Firebird. Also a 64 Olds 442. I can only think of three F*rds: a 64 1/2 and a 68 Mustang and a 58 T-Bird. Wife's drivers were usually Impala/Caprice wagons including 79, 84 and 92. Current drivers are the 84 Caprice Landau Coupe my dad had and a 96 Impala SS. Pictures of some of the old cars are just below.....

Bill.

auto I own my current '38 project Chevy simply by luck of the draw. I had two Corvairs, including a rare '62 Monza Spyder convertible, I was going to restore but met my soon-to-be-wife in 2000 and in a fit of some kind, sold them as I was going to move and lose my new 30'x50' shop. After we were married in 2001, I started looking for any '38 (year I was born) locally and on ebay and the first one I could afford that looked like a fairly simple job to get on the road was my '38 Master. I was the winning bidder but had to have the car trucked from Utah to upstate NY. I haven't had much time until now to work on it so I still am not driving it. I have driven it around the neighborhood but it is not ready to be licensed. For my first car, I skipped the last day of high school as a graduating senior in '56 and went to my local Chevy dealer and bought a '48 convertible. I was from a small town and that was the only convertible for sale at either of our two dealerships, the other being Ford. I didn't have much sense in those days and I would pass an old (person) and when I was beside them, I would turn my ignition key on and off to make the car backfire. After a couple of timing chain replacements, I sold the car. I have owned well over 50 cars since that time, including several Chevys, and have only had one bad one. That was a '69 Camero RS, a limited edition called a Snow Bird which I purchased in Hampton, VA. I have never been able to find out anything about that car but it sure was a lemon. It had lots of special features and looked sharp but that was about it. I am really looking forward to the day when I can take my '38 on the road. Also, I would love to win the NY lottery so I could buy another '48 convertible but since I rarely buy a ticket, I don't see that happening!!! In the mean time, I enjoy cars vicariously through my collection of over 1200 toy trucks, cars and tractors. Unfortunately, I have had to pay a lot more for some of those than I did for many of my real cars in the past!! Beamer (No, I do not have a BMW. I used Jim Beam as my VCCA name and they put the Beamer tag on me!).

My connection to Chevrolet dates back to grammar school.

I had a wonderful 6 th. grade teacher, Mr. Gilbert. After school I would walk home, get my baseball mitt and head to little league. It was about 5-6 miles away but I would take the bus or, if I was lucky, Mr. Gilbert would happen by, and give me a ride. He drove a great Dark Green, 1941 Master Deluxe. And I really enjoyed ridding in that car. We'd talk about school, baseball, my test scores :{ and how much he liked his Chevy. Great man. And to this day, I can still remember the pleasant aroma of that car.

Any way in High school I could not find a 1941, so I bought a really cool 54, 2 door 210. It was great car. Well that is until one night it spun a bearing. And since the junk yard did not have a 235, the day I was shopping I bought a 348 eng. & trans. Yes, I said 348 cu. Inch. Truck eng. & trans. to be exact.

I had the 348 eng. & trans rebuilt, and about 20-25 tries, some torching, cutting, prying, some luck, whole lot of money, and a bunch of help {time & $} from my Dad, we got it in and running. And oh my did it run. The car looked 99% stock, but it was not and it sure beat those darn Mopar's & F**d's. Any way I had a ball with that car, but as college approached I sold it.

Several years later {1972} I bought used 1968 Impala from Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles. And that was also a great car.

But the Chevy that always stays in my mind is Mr. Gilbert's 41. So about 4 years ago I started looking for a nice 41 and I lucked out. I found my 41, Special Deluxe Coupe. And now as I drive my car, I remember Mr. Gilbert, his Chevy, his kindness and smile.

In fact last summer while I was cleaning my car, a kid stopped by {10 years old}, looked at the car and said; "Wow, this is REALLY old." No I did not slap him! I gave him a ride. Just like Mr. Gilbert did for me.

So drive, smile & be happy. Because there's no such thing as to much fun.

I own my 32 Sport Coupe because;
1. No one else wanted it and it kind of followed me home.
2. I had all my friends tell me that I was crazy, hence the special challenge.
3. I don't think anyone has ever restored a 32 Pontiac.
