What are your thoughts as to what type valve cap should be on the Schrader metal valve stems on 31 and 32 models?

The cap is nickel plated and it has a valve core removal tool on top. You can purchase this type of cap from Coker Tire, Universal Tire and various other suppliers as well.

wink :)

It is true that you can purchase the same type cap but, they are noticeably different from the originals. Same for the metal valve stem nuts. They are better than rubber but still can tell them from originals if you know what you are looking for. Since the same valve stem parts were used on Model A F0rds parts suppliers for them are also sources for the stems and caps.

I hoped I would get the response from you two that I did. The reason I posed the question is that I have been told by more than one member that the core removing cap was supposed to be on the spare tire only. I don't believe that.

In 1961 I wrote the Schrader valve company and asked if they had any of the valve stems. I gave them the number that was in one of my tires. They had 19 of them. I bought all 19. I still have one that has never been used. All of them came with the core removing cap. They didn't know if they were going to be used on the ground or the spare.

I have asked the folks that say the core removing cap should be on the spare only if they thought Chevrolet switched the caps at assembly and they have no answer.

If I ever judge again I will stick with core removing caps on all stems.

Thanks for your response.

I think that the Red Crown caps would look good on your maroon car. :)
