the rear end on my 47 chevy fleetline leaks gear oil. Is there a way of adding oil to it without putting the car on a lift?

Not unless you have a very skinny crawler/creeper.

However, if you parked the back of the car over a curb, you would have room to remove the fill plug and fill the rear end. Without an oil pump, it is a real challenge to use the original container to fill the rear end. Can be done however.

Just where is all this oil leaking from?..Are your brake shoes soaked with oil?..its more common for the transmission to overfill the rear end.
I fill mine (when I change it) with the back of the car jacked up, or you could invest in a pair of ramps.

Ramps and curb ideas (noted above) are good.

ALSO, if you have a little 'hump' in your driveway, it may be possible to 'park' the car so the rearend is 'up' enough to get under it.

FOR SAFETY SAKE BE SURE TO SET THE BRAKE AND BLOCK A WHEEL OR TWO. I'd suggest the same for 'curb' and 'ramp' suggestions.

Or you can just ask my wife to park it, I guarantee that at least 2 wheels will be on the highest curb in sight.
