How far in from the end should the seal and bushing be installed and how far apart should the seal and bushing be from each other. Also can 80-90 gear oil be used or does it have to be 600 w gear oil. Thanks in advance for all the help.

The driveshaft bushing and seal are located in the front of the torque tube. The seal goes in first and it butts against a flange on the inside of the torque tube. The bushing goes in next and it rests against the seal.

600W is actually about the same as the modern 160W oil.

wink :)

Thanks Junkyard Dog. Just got a box full of parts in the mail last Friday. Now I am ready to put the rear differential together. One more question before I get back to work. The hole in the side of the differential carrier where the e brake shaft goes is worn out quite large and out of round. What is the best way to repair this? I thought I might fill the hole with brass and drill it back out to the right size. What would you do? The hole on the backing plate was the same and I drilled that out and pressed in a bushing and drilled that out to the right size. Thanks again.

The hole should be drilled out and a bushing of the correct size installed. This would be about the same procedure as you did for the backing plate.

wink :)
