How long does it take for the radio to warm up and play? The radio is original as is the car. Mostly everything else works except the gas gage. I've heard they take a while to warm up. Is there a place to find tubes if I need them?

Figure one minute to one minute and half. You should hear the vibrator buzzing at the time you turn the radio on.

All the tubes are readily available. Just contact the right person.

If you don't hear that vibrator buzzing, then you should check your fuse. If your fuse is good, and still no buzz, don't leave it on. You'll fry it. Open your vibrator by prying the base open carefully and inside there are contacts just like your points. Make sure they aren't rusted solid, and file them like you would your points. Recrimp the cap on, and try again. You really shouldn't run it too much without knowing whats really wrong with it. When that switch is on, you will still have B+ voltage whether that vibrator is working or not. Check the Buffer cap, if your vibrator works but no music/noise. If your cap. is working, it will usually make some sort of a "pop" when you turn on the radio. You might wanna check the speaker for rot as well. Several companys put new voice coils in old speakers. But for the time being if necassary you can swipe one out of a late model Ford, the dementions are the same, and the ohms are very close in rating. Good Luck.

If the vibrator dosen't work it should never be replaced until the Buffer condenser is replaced When that switch is on, you will still have B+ voltage whether that vibrator is working or not.

You will not have B+ voltage. You will only have A+

A tube radio will not "pop" when switched on. The only radio that does that is when the final output is a transistor
You might wanna check the speaker for rot as well. Several companys put new voice coils in old speakers.

Actually, we replace the cone and the voice coil as a unit
But for the time being if necassary you can swipe one out of a late model Ford, the dementions are the same, and the ohms are very close in rating.

To prevent damage to the output transformer you should only use an OEM 4 ohm 6X9 speaker which is readily available
Good Luck.

I knew that, I was testing YOU... In my defense, the impedence of a late model (80s & 90's) Ford is 3.9 ohms. But, I am only 28, Be happy I know the real meaning behind "vibrator" stressed

A radio restoration is not complete until all the old paper capacitors and electrolytic (filter) capacitors are changed. Failure to do so will result in you removing the radio 30 days later,to do what should have been done the first time.

Hi Lee,

I have sent you a PM two times. Do You know how to read your PM'S. I would send you an email, except you do not list an address in your profile.

Well familiar with South Dakota. Spent three years there and covered the entire state. I worked out of Webster up in the NE corner.

Ray,

Probably none of my business; but it looks like he spelled out his email address in his post on August 11th.

Bill, you are probably correct. I didn't recognize that as an address.

We are together on PMs now and all is cool.
