Just a note about this truck. To begin with I don't think Chevy made a 1 ton in 29? So I went to see the truck. The following info is from this truck. Cowl Plate # 3LR7846 = 1930 1 1/2 ton Built St.Louis MO. Engine Serial # T184439 = Truck motor Block Casting # 385501 = 29/30 E-9-0 May 09, 1930 Bowtie 2 Conv 1 Head Casting # 836275 Late 1930 D-28-0 April 28, 1930 Conv 12 131" wheel base = 1 1/2 ton Model 112 Gages on dash Round not oval shaped 1930 Wheels 20" tires 20 x 5.00 Not correct should be 30 x 5.00 Front 32 x 5.oo Rear Rear fenders missing wiper missing Owner says OK. title says 29 Chevy Had a recent 6,000.00 paint job??? Everything I observed said this was a 30 1 1/2 ton and if this was restored with a 6,000.00 paint job they got taken to the cleaners. Top is missing passenger side hidem at seam, inside door panels missing as are the window handles and door handles, temp guage mounted on piece of wood guage only enclosure missing. Radiator cap has a 28 winged wheel motto meter. also the cap has a 1/4 inch hole drilled fwd of the meter with a rubber hose for overflow stuck in it. Pointed all of these items out to the owner... on 12 May 02 to date no changes to ebay listing. Buyer Be Ware.  If you wish to view truck go to ebay motors on ebay and search item # 1827867306

Thanks 29, I've been watching that auction, and was wondering about the "restoration". If that guy paid six grand for that paint job, he really got taken! I can see from the photo's that it is really a poor job. Maybe he figures if he tells everyone that amount, he can get more for it. Speaking of dreamers, I have been trying to purchase a 29 stake bed here in Utah for several years. It is a decent original, with a few dents, broken windshield etc. A great start, but probably worth $1200.00 to $1500.00 max, and would require a complete restoration, wood, mechanicals etc. The owners business is in trouble so now he is willing to sell. He finally contacted me today, wants $6500.00 for it!
As much as I would like to bail him out, I cannot see buying these trucks for such high prices, only to spend well over their market value to restore them. An associate of mine jokingly stated that with the cost of restorations these days, the current owners should pay us to take them off their hands, if we promice to give the vehicle a good home and actually restore them.
Any way thanks for the heads up, and keep us informed.

Kevin, thanks for the reply, I don't usually post to much about the things on ebay but this one was local and my better half is looking to purchase an early Chevy truck. I have a 29 coach and she was really keen on the 29 1 1/2 ton but when we went to look at it the flaws were very apperant to even the casual obsever. I talked to the mechanic of the owner and he was not to knowledgable about the truck it self, the owner bought it on ebay site unseen and then paid a $1000.00 to have it shipped from OK. to San Diego she was looking for a street rod not a restoration project and paid way to much for the truck on the advice of friends and her mechanic. If people continue to pay these inflated prices for poor quality car/trucks the madness will never end. Hope you purchase works out sounds like you are looking for a good project. Hope the hunt goes well. Kirk Culver

Thanks Kirk,
I already have one 29 1-1/2 ton. It came from eastern Wyoming, and although it is a do-able restoration, it is missing quit a few parts. (rear fenders, front apron, cut down running boards, glass, etc.). But perhaps the worst thing is the frame, it has been broken right behind the cab and welded back together with the normal farmers patch. This other truck is so much better, that I was really hoping to make a deal with the guy. We will see as time goes on.
I spent some time in El Cajon about 27 years ago (can't believe it's been that long) I can only imagine how much it has changed!. If I run onto another 29 truck I'll let you know. I also have a 29 Sedan, it was my second car, got it in 1971, at 16 years old and still own the cussid thing. Finally found a complete crank hole tube and cap on ebay last fall, with the exception of the original celuloid taillight lens, that pretty well completes the thing.
Again, thanks for the heads up on the ebay truck, and I feel bad for the lady, but as a buyer, you have to really beware. I would be more than happy to go look at a vehicle for sale in my area, for a potential buyer out of state. If that would help club members out in any way. Just a thought for the rest of the group.
Again, good luck and I'll keep a look for another 29.

Kevin, there is another 1 1/2 ton for sale on Ebay and the price is about what it should be for the condition of the truck it is however a 30 not a 29 but if memory serves me correctly (sometimes it doesn't) the frames are the same. This one is located in New Mexico and I believe most of it was there. The hunt continues. Regards, Kirk

Hello Kirk,
Tried to find the truck on ebay, but couldn't find it! Looked under 1930 Chevrolet, 1930 Chevy and 30 chevrolet. Let me know what catagory it is under, and I'll try again.
Thanks, Kevin

Hi Kevin. The 1 1/2 ton Chevy truck on Ebay is at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...mp;ed=1021996082&indexURL=0&rd=1 If the link doesn't work, try searching for the following item number: Chevrolet : Independence (Item # 1829159400) as of 2:20 PM here in Utah 5/18, there are 2 days, 19 hours left on the auction, and it stands with no bidders at $1300. It looks like the seller can't decide whether it is a '30 or a '31. Lenn Riddle lennriddle@sprynet.com

In looking at the picture, it appears to be a 31 as advertised.
Wish he had some more detail shots of the thing though.
Thanks guys, Kevin

The photos show it to be a 157" wheelbase 1 1/2 ton truck. If door handles are correct then it is a 1931 model M series. That is the later '31 with pierced disc wheels. The earlier L series had solid disc wheels.
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
