I remember this question from a while back.....
As I remember, the answer was that GM or the dealer just placed the bumper jack, still in the box, in the trunk loose. Therefore there is no "correct" place to put it.
I'm sure if I'm not remembering correctly (that happens quite often these days) someone will correct me.

Thanks Ken48.I just got mine out of storage and cleaned all the cob webs off and give it a good washing.tried it out and worked fine. Not real crazy about how far you'd have to raise the car before the tire would come off ground.I'd proly not use it anyway, that's why I'll be carrying a floor jack when on trips.

That is correct. Tere is no offical place for a jack in 1948 and back. The jack and tools came in a cardboard box and was just placed in the trunk.

I hadn't thought of removing the base...I just toss it in there with the rest of the junk...grin
Thanks for the photo's Johnny...
My Fleetmaster has a wood shelf across the back, unlike your '48's...

Whether or not this is correct I am not sure but it does make sense to me. What do you think?????? Hi, It would also make sense to me, except our 48 Fleetmaster does not have a divider by the back seat and there was no evidence that it ever had one. Were they possibly dealer or maybe owner installed? A lot of 'great minds' thought alike back in the day too and the divider looks like an ordinary (full dimension?) 1x board.

Yes, i got it NOS in the box. about 8 years ago i sold a second one but regeted it. Last year at a VCCA show with my Convertible to get my senior award a fellow VCCA member asked me if my jack was original. i told him it is and that it is the accessory one for 47-48. he told me he had one but didn't know what it belong to. without looking excited i asked if he would sell it? well here it is in my 47 Aerosedan: http://www.1948chevy.com/support/my47-18.htm

The Fleetline 2 door has that little space in the back of the trunk because the seat is a little farther forward and the divider is exposed. Chevrolet also suggested the the jack could be stored under the rear seat for sedan models- forward area where the space is exposed.

The base of my jack is attached to the "rack", for one...I suspect I have the original jack for a '47...

Thanks chef...The base looks like the jack on the right but attached...The universal jack on the left has the bumper hook the same size as mine...Perhaps mine is from the '50's...

Did the 41 have a round post or a square post w/"teeth?" (please, no comments about teeth.) Charlie

There are three different but similar jacks for 1941. Apparently three different supplier companies were used.

The jack the factor supplied had the shaft with the notches and has a T crossection. It sits on top of the base so it is free to swivel. The jack with the smooth round post is an accessory or replacement jack.....see accessory book for that one.
