A couple of years ago I bought a rebuilt starter for the 53 from NAPA because the original needed rebuilt. A local, long time retired mechanic, rebuilt my original starter and I put it on the shelf as a spare. As luck would have it I recently had to put that starter back on because the NAPA starter started making noise. I took the NAPA starter to the same guy to diagnose and repair it. I just got it back. The armature threw a winding. He put in a new bushing, armature and checked everything out. He charged me a grand total of $35 labor plus parts. Wow! Lunch at McDonalds costs that these days. I've known the guy many years. He's a stand up guy and more interested in helping than getting rich.
