I agree that the info in Chip's post is great stuff, but I'd like to add a slight twist to it.

I think the first order of business is to squirt the MMO into the cylinders through the spark plug holes.

Then, while that is soaking around the pistons and rings, make your way around the vehicle to check on the tires, brakes, change all fluids, etc..

The main thrust of my process is to check all systems BEFORE working on the engine. Leave that for last.

When I get an engine running at last, I want to go for a drive! So, make sure everything else is safe and ready for the maiden voyage.
