That is a good idea Joe, the Chapter's Web Administrator could maintain control, in conjunction with the Chapter's officers, but still be under the auspices of the National Club, as the Regions are, for the Non-profit rules and regs. But without any legitimate gripes of National VCCA members that don't approve of funding the Chat room from the VCCA general funds.

Sure is something to think about...Do ya think this Chat Chapter has the support of ALL the Chatter people? I haven't looked at the numbers. I agree your idea is very interesting, but does it have a "pay per view" ring to it?

I have no problems with the ideas put forward by Cordman and MrMack. As Bill Barker said some months ago, VCCA is running out of digital space so we could assist towards improving the system. I realize this will need to be authorized by Chat Chapter and probably the BOD. Tony

I had thought that this "Chat Chapter" would run seperate to this chat site. As a Chat Chapter I assumed it would run as a normal chapter with general talk, dicussions, help with a sprinkling of humour. It was made very clear to me a while back that this is not what this site is about. Therefore I feel that a "Chat Chapter" & this "Chat Site" should be seperate. I'm at the crossroads on the VCCA......I'm uneasy posting on this site & hoped that the "Chat Chapter" would overcome this. If it is just a new name for this site....What is the sense in doing it. AND I have just received the June G&D and it seems to me that the board rejected most motions that benefit the members but pass motions that benefit the board. As I am unable to vote for board members due to the delay in my G&D delivery there is little I can do except "Bitch" about it. My subscription is about due so I'm unsure that I want to renew my membership.
I thnk that "Let your fingers do the talking" could be a rude gesture, as per, sticking up two fingers or one finger. How about "It helps to chat"

I am concerned about the cordman's idea that our budding charter "could offer to take responsibilty for full management of the Chat Room, including expenses"... I believe that the purpose of this new charter was to offer an alternative to vcca members whom did not have the opportunity or desire to belong to a traditional region, including international members...in doing so, we would be able to network, and promote ideas and activities within which we share a common interest... to be more or fully responsible for the chat site might be analogous to a charter being created to program & publish the g&d, as opposed to it being a product of the vcca's general membership and responsibility of the elected board of directors... epi

Not to worry guys, it was just some brainstorming into the future, and it would have the pleasant affect of making the Chat site more in tune to the users ideals, after all do you expect those that have no interest in the site doing the major part of paying for our toy? That is what is going on now. The users themselves takeing responsibility for the site would make it more independant of those that would do away with the site entirely. Think about if in that light. Does anyone really know what the operating costs for www.chevychat.org is per year?

I'm sure bbb knows the operating costs, but I don't think that expense is the point...I think that the chat site should be a service available to, and responsibility of, all members -- just as the g&d and access to ta's is -- not just memebers of our chat chapter... epi

Yeah, but I guess you will admit that the G&D is different , in that it is mailed to everyone that pays dues, which is 100% of the members. The chat site is not available to members unless they have invested in a computer and are connected to the internet, that seems to me to be some what a different situation. And the expense is a strong point to consider.
When someone suggests to me "It isn't about the money" I start to believe "If it isn't about the money, what is it about? usually it is about the money" So how much do you propose the dues to the Chat Chapter be? I think it should be comparable to what other Regions charge. Our LSR charges $12.00 a year for a couple or a single person.

macky, first, I didn't say "It isn't about the money," I was merely making a point, which, in my particular case, wasn't about money...I was expressing my opinion about a charter not taking on a memberwide function...just as a region wouldn't necessarily be responsible for the g&d... second, I think the charter's dues will need to be adequate to support that which the charter members & directors deem to be necessary to operate the agreed upon programs of the charter... epi

I agree with what epi is saying. We are in a period of shaking out the new chapter and it will take some time to get to the final result. IMHO Current slogan suggestions: 1. "My club is just a click away." 2. "My chapter is just a click away." 3. "My chat is just a click away." 4. "Let your fingers do your talking." 5. "All Chevy Chat at Chat Chapter" 6. "It helps to chat"

I agree with Louis C. and epi. Let's take it easy, get approved, get organized and take it in stride without trying to make it all encompassing all at once. Good things take time.

Another thing that's going to become obvious pretty quickly is how difficult it is to make decisions with a lot of people involved.
I think that it would be well advisied to define what topics the chapter officers can make decisions on, verses which ones require the full vote of the membership.
Success is often associated with nimbleness. If you can't make decisins quickly and move on, then that will breed discontent.

We have tons of time, once things settle down (and hope approved by BOD) we will maybe need to figure out a way to survey all members quick and easy using regular email (maybe using "reply all") to 'talk'. If we can restore a Chevy,I'm sure we can overcome any problems that pop up. IMHO

6. "It helps to chat"
7. "We chat Chevys!"

"All Chevy @ Chat" As I said earlier
"As Bill Barker said some months ago, VCCA is running out of digital space so we could assist towards improving the system. I realize this will need to be authorized by Chat Chapter and probably the BOD."
It was put forward as a suggestion to be discussed not a directive, I am not the only member and dont intend to be. Tony

I have a question and hope that nobody gets sideways by it. Why do we need a slogan? Did I miss something?

I may have missed it too Chipper. I figure it may be to go along with the logo and be part of a banner to be used at various VCCA events (????) Maybe even to be included in any G&D advertising for the chat site(???). 37Blue

That is what I thought also 37Blue.
Something to attract attention to the chapter; maybe like Chevy using the slogan “See the USA in your Chevrolet”.

Let us not get hung up on a motto. We need some by-laws and a charter.

I agree with Macky. Hammering out a set of bylaws and a charter should be our focus at this point. Dan.
Together we can do anything. The impossible just takes longer.
