Not in My day.
And that's the whole point!

Inevitably 'things' change. Not always in ways that 'we' think are for the best.

But, they do indeed change.......

Incidentally, why is this thread all "off center??"

I dont' mean "in content."

If the sentences aren't short, I have to move the posts 'back and forth' just to read them.

What's up with that?????

The reason this thread is off center, is the picture that was posted that exceeded the guideline of 600 width.

Ray,

I've noticed your advice about the size of pictures in the past. BUT, there isn't any picture in this thread.....

Could it be the "large" quotes?????

Bill.

RGwiz,

No offense MrMack, but in this day and age we should no longer have to put kids on the ground with rifles to do away with the likes of osama and company.
So what should we do about the likes of O.B.L., if we aren't going to put kids (trained soldiers and Marines) on the ground?

(A) just leave them alone, and they will leave us alone?
(B) Send Rev. Jackson to ask them to leave us alone? He has been effective in several instances.
(C) Nuke anyplace that the CIA thinks he may be hunkered down in?
(D) Change our foreign policy to quit supporting tyranny and despots, just because they have something we need, or because they permit us to use their land for purposes we thinks will help our"National Interest"?

(E) None of the above, if you chose this answer you must write a short essay explaining what should be done.

Please don't get me wrong guys, I believe that armed conflict between nations is the epitimy of evil manifested. There is nothing that even approaches the useless carnage and loss of life, suffering and strife put onto any of element of mankind that equals the horror of modern warfare.Because it is done on purpose, not like any natural disaster....And the horror done in the name of God or for God to be used as an excuse or to perpetrate ones own religion onto others, is worse than any other reason I can think of.

Hello All,

Thank God we have men like this who are not cowards and will fight for our freedom!

This is my neighbors son-in-law and I attended his wedding several years ago.

I love him and his little family and I am so proud of him!

Hold on here.

I didn't mean to get into the meaning of war or a soldier's role in it. I mearly said that if my kid wanted to join the service to be in the infantry I would talk her out of it. I'm her father and father's don't want to see thier kid's killed.

It's no different than telling her to aways put her seat belt on!

I was talking about careers in the military. I would not talk her out of enlisting by any means.

Whatever you think of the war in the Iraq belongs on another page. I'll be glad to join you there.

This is about kids yours and mine and we all love our kids.
We need to tell them how freedon is not free.
There is sacrifice involved.

Mr. Antique Mechanic.

I was told this place had a bunch of guys that know everything about real Chevrolets. I am amazed that an older gentleman like you can really fix a computer program like this one. Did you work for Microsoft? Fer sure you can tune up the fm radio in my Chevelle.

Yes, I agree with JG. Good Job!!

Now Ray, I don't mean to be picky; but you got it fixed from your post 'forward,' right?? It still seems 'off' prior to that.

So, who did it??

Why don't you tell them what they did (wrong) so 'we' can avoid it in the future. (Sort of like not posting pix that are too big.)

Having to go 'back and forth' just to read a post sorta ruins it for me......

Bill.

I really don't know enough about a specific war to judge anyone about whether it is worth the losses for the anticipated gains. When I was "In" I tried to learn as much as I could and train as well as possible for any situation the Commander-in-chief and the country called for me and my comrades in arms to serve in.

I was just passing on how I feel about my kids and your kids having to go. I have seen the pain war causes first hand, as well as an auto accident or a horrible sickness that causes a person's child or grandchild to almost depart this life, at what we believe is a way too early age.

I prayed every time my Army son has left for the Gulf... "Oh Lord if it be your will, please let this cup of pain and woe pass us by, and return my son to our family whole and in good spirits, Amen."

This is not a political forum and I don't care to particapate in a discussion pro or con here.

MM, you said:

"...if we aren't going to put kids (trained soldiers and Marines) on the ground?"

Maybe I am too thin-skinned about this, but my oldest son was killed (1st "conflict" in the Middle East) on the ground and he was in the USAF and one of my best friends was killed in Nam on the ground and he was in the USCG and I have known some Navy SEALS who were on the ground in Nam, so I would like to see you expand your statement to include all military personnel who fight and die not just the USA and the USMC.

Even in WWII all services fought and died (land & water, remember the Sea Bees, UDT teams on beachheads, 1st guys on the beach on D-Day) except then there wasn't a USAF until '47 it was part of the Army. As a former sailor I won't remind you that the Marines are part of the Navy Department, jarheads tend to 'bow-up' when reminded of that. LOL

Having spoken with you in the past I know you meant no offence to the other services and their service, just a little 'slip of the finger'.

Gator, no slip of the finger, I am sorry for your loss as well as the loss my son SFC US Army Fort Hood, and his wife felt when her 17 year old and his friend were killed in a 1990 Mustang on Nitrous when they failed to make a curve in Norman Ok. three years ago, that year over 10,000 sons and daughters lost their lives due to auto accidents. Any loss is a loss, I am not sure which is the greater loss, an auto accident here in our homeland or that agony ,pain and woe of a loss in service to your country......

There is no need for a Marine to be bashful about comments about any of the other inferior Armed Services of the USA, That is just the way it is. wink
And if there was no Navy to transport Marines, we would just have to swim over and "Do some A** Kicking!" devil

Once a Marine !

For those of you who don't know...squids (sailors) and jarheads (marines) have always had a 'love-hate' relationship. We would even fight each other in bars if there weren't any zoomies (air force), or '---'less waves (coast guard),or grunts (army) around...then go back to the ship together. Does young and stupid always go together???

Yeah, it was just a come back for old Gator and the fine squids with the little inverted dixie cups on their heads! I really am in full support of ALL of our fine men and women in the best armed forces in the world... Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines and specially those heros that wear the U.S. Coast Guard orange flight suits!

You're right about the USCG doing itself proud after the storms...they gave themselves the best TV ads ever for their devotion to duty and service. They didn't wait for someone in Washington to tell them what to do, they just did it.

By the way on the national news last night there was a story about the government going after and charging with a crime a Phoenix, AZ team of fire-fighters because while they were saving about 450 people some carried guns (they had been swore by the US marshals) to protect themselves and the people they saved. Isn't this a kick in the head? Talk about wrong headed...Why is the national government wasting time and money on this....they should use the money to make some medals for the fire-fighters...IMHO.

Gator and MrMack I am very sorry to hear of both your loss. I couldn't begine to emagine your pain.

I have a friend who has not talked to his son in over ten years. He too is broken over it, but will tell you that his son dosen't care. Drugs and the wrong crowd drove them to blows years ago. He will never forgive him for abandoning the rest of the family and the son feels like it's the family's fault.

This sort of thing is so scarry these days and that has to also hurt pritty bad. Thank God there is no grandchildren involved. (that he knows of).

On a lighter note, my daughter asked me just today if I can take her out driving this weekend. (!) Wake-up call!! She just turned 15 in September but is taking driver's ed in school. My wife and I talk to her while we drive and ask her questions pertaining to road signs, right of way, and safety. Stuff she is learning about in class.

My question to you guys is. At what age did you guys take your son or daughter out for a behind the wheel driving lesson?

I know some of ya way out west put the kids behine the wheel when they can bearly reach the pedals. Here in the Big East we have stuff you can hit, so be nice!

All of my sons and daughters took Driver's Ed in school during the summer that they were eligible for a learner's permit. I would take them out to an elementary school that was closed for the summer and let them practice driveing, "according to Mack's rules" Driver's Ed is ok but they didn't get to do enough driving since there were 3 or 4 to a car with a "teacher' that usually was a sub-assistant coach that did Driver's Ed for the few extra bucks. At that time in Texas they could get a hardship driving license at 14, if they had to drive younger kids to school ETC. That was back in the 80s.
You also have to be aware of how your Auto insurance carrier views driving training.

Many farmer's kids start driving big tractors pickups and trucks before they are old enough to drive a car.

our four kids were driving our farm tractors by about 8 years old. none have been involved in any accidents save a dead deer now and then. i took the boy to Bob Bonderants school of high performance driving in Arizona when he turned 18. little snot nose durn near outran his old man. i'd highly suggest taking your kids to such a driving school--they teach defensive verses aggressive driving techniques and its good bonding material for the old man and the kids.plus its one of the most exciting things you'll ever do with yer pants on. mike
