While it is reported that Lincoln did the above quote, I believe that he borrowed it from Samuel Johnson (1709-1784). Lincoln probably thought Sammy wouldn't mind if he used it since Sammy wasn't around anymore. I've always liked that particular quote. Thanks for submitting it Louis.

"This smells so good, what is it ?" Well there’s a funny story here. I made dinner for a lady friend this past weekend. And when she arrived I had lots of tasty things cooking on the stove, Alfredo Sauce with some fresh vegetables, fresh Shrimp cooking in a small pan with herbs and spices, water for pasta, an oven full of fresh bread AND a pot of boiling water on the back of the stove, with my heater valve in it. Well “KP” arrives, we greet and I pour her a nice glass of wine. Then she wonders into the kitchen and over to the stove, places her head near the shrimp “Umm, I love shrimp. It smells so good.” Then she moves her head over to the pasta water and says "Oh I love your Pasta.” She then dips a spoon into the simmering Alfredo Sauce and samples it, "Oh this is soooo good." Then looks at the boiling water on the back of the stove, dips the spoon into it and says, “Umm, this smells good, what is it?” To which I reply, “That's the heater valve off my Chevy. I am boiling it gently so remove all the gunk." She smiled and walked away muttering something about men. So to date, this is the best one liner I know.  Happy cooking,  Michael
