Old Cars don't kill people, people kill people!

People that die in old cars with their seat belts securely fasten, died being safe! The rest of us just die.

QUOTE:" Safety in vehicles is an important issue no doubt and no argument...especially in modern cars".

Modern cars, is not the issue. Safety is the issue and old cars!

Then the Duesenberg should be in a museum, a parade, or have an escort!

The Duesenberg should have a warning: UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED.

If you consider that 1929 Duesenburg unsafe at any speed, then you had better put your '31 Chevy under lock and key in the garage forever, or put it in a museum along side the Duesenburg because your '31 can be considered "Unsafe At Any Speed" as well. Since it is a wood bodied vehicle (roll bar or not), and it is a hindrance on the highway because of it's slow speed, the car is just as "unsafe" as the Duesenburg or any other old vehicle. If you are that concerned and that worried about safety issues then you should probably not be driving an old car on the highway at all. The folks that owned that Duesenburg have just as much right to drive their car on the road without an escort as you do your '31 Chevy. And, at least the Duesenburg can be driven at freeway speeds, or faster, to flow with the speed of traffic, unlike your '31 Chevrolet...unless your car is a street rod with a 350 V-8 and a modern drive train. wink laugh laugh

Hey John,

WHO feels strongly both ways.?.?.?.

I don't 'read' that you do. You seem very much in favor of installing seat belts.

And I don't think I indicated "that I feel strongly both ways."

Quote
Incidentally, I wouldn't put seat belts in my old car(s).

Period.
That seems quite clear that I haven't and won't be installing seat belts in my car(s).

Altho, as before, I do 'understand' why some folks do. It's their car. They can do as they wish. And so can I.

I certainly didn't mean to sound wishy-washy.

As for sticking a finger in the air..... careful with that whole idea!!!!

Bill.

My real Pet Peeve while driving is ME !!!!

I wish I would pay more attention, watch where I am going, stop rubber necking, trying to write a note while tooling along, rolling through stop signs, not turning where I wanted and then the worst of all, not carrying change for the parking meter.

For it is, after over 50 years here, my view {belief & hope} that the person {s} whom invented the parking meter including all his/her/there family, friends & neighbors loose control of there bladders so I will know who they are and can walk up and slap them, hard.

The new ones here will take credit or debit cards. No change needed, but they also will take
change if you have it. You must walk a few steps
to the machine and back to put the slip in the
car, but if you have other stops to make, the same
slip with the expiration time is still good.
Both types have upsides and downsides.

Hey Michael, quit sugar coating it about the parking meters. What not tell us what you really think!!!

The "pay stations" that print out slips to stick on your inside window (replacing the parking meters) PDXjoe speaks of are really a good deal. Also makes the sidewalk look nicer without a parking meter every few feet.

And the fact you can move to a different parking spot (maybe even across town) and still use the sticker if it has "time" left on it is really a good (and fair) deal.

One of the few 'new' things I've actually liked (approved of) here in Portland.

Bill.

Another peeve of mine is that there are "other people" on the highways when I am on them...Don't they know who I am ??

And Mr.Mack, Hell, I wish I had a dime for every time I get the bird. As a daily driver I have an 82 MBZ, 240 D. Which if you don’t know is 0 -60 in ten days, or 100 miles down hill, which ever come first. And the truth is I get the bird NO LESS than 10 times a week. But these “odd” folks would really be Pi** ed at me IF they ever realize how little I care.

Side bar, “Parking lot brawls” {police lingo for drivers squaring off} have gone up over 12,000% in the past 2 years. Yikes!!

So, Folks, slow down & calm down. And get off the highways, Michael’s coming!!

IDEA: A dedicated VCCA lane.....Call your Congressman!!

Happy Motoring, even if it's slow !

Michael41, I watched a show about using veg. oil in diesels...know a guy doing it.

I think the site for the 'refining' stuff is "freedomfuel.com", looks easy to do. The fuel is suppose to be even better for the motor then pet. based fuels and its' cost for you is .70 cents a gal. Plus your exhaust smells like cooking french fries...LOL

http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_svo.html

At that price you should laugh out loud at the bird shooters...

Gator, Hell I'd run run Cow crap in my Diesel if I could.....Or better yet, Horse crap....Gotta be cheaper and there is sure a lot of it !!!!!

And Bill, I never heard about those kind of “slip” meters, but seems like a good idea. Here at the Beach we still have the quarter slots....by the by, $.25 gets you 15 Mins. And they do not take nickles....?

In Texas MM a J sometimes has a H sound doesn't it?

I had a friend in college with this name and when he left notes on doors saying "Jesus was here" it took people back a little...

Was the Volvo a low rider?
