Hey Warren,

Thanks for the update. It is indeed interesting to 'see' how many guys do so much of their 'own work.' I suppose part of that is because of the type of 'forum' we're in here in CC. You wouldn't think it would be that high in a 'history' forum or a 'poetry' forum or whatever.

Sorry to hear about the funeral. Hope all is well.....

Bill.

No problem John, I'm going to a swap meet in Fredricksburg, TX this weekend are you looking for anything?

Also MrMack that's not that far from you and has turned into a good meet.

Hello All,

Ya know I just realized I never answered this question!
Growing up on a farm you learn to do all three and with age comes skill. Yes to all three!

Several years ago I was working with a fellow named Lloyd Benson who wanted to be president.

We stopped at a trade school where they taught all types of welding.

Before we left that trade school I signed up for the next night school session. It was sure worth the $75.00 fee; it would not have paid for the materials we used.

Big Bob,

Actually No ! I met a guy (a friend) who does this for a living. When you do it every day your skill level improves. I'm very good with layout and fitting. He does the welding.

Thanks Kimosabie!

Actually I was just repeating what I heard years ago. I don't know were I first heard it but it sure applies to this thread!...and this chat site.
After all, if ya don't ask the dumb questions we here would all be paging through shop manuals and not having any fun.
I remember Dad showing me how to do stuff with lengthy explanations, then looking me square in the eyes and asking, any dumb questions? I wouldn't dare say yes.
...now what was "camber", again?

Warren - Thanks I don't need anything right now.

But I wish I was close enough to go with you! Sounds like FUN!

You are so right! It gets harder and harder to do this stuff as bad as I hate to admit it.
Its easier to DIRECT someone how to do it than do it yourself - sometimes!

Yeah, John Gill. You hit the nail on the head when you 'added' sometimes regarding 'doing the work yourself.'

And also, sometimes it seems like it would be easier to 'throw up your hands' and exclaim, "I'll do IT myself."

Frustrating, to say the least!!!

Bill, all you need to do the work your self is talent, 50 years experiance, a $90,000 shop,a shop manual a J.C. Whitney catalog, and Gene and Dog on the Chat line and your own bale of $100 bills! Let the games commence!

Hello All,

This is about, MONEY TALKS! Today I stopped by my favorite restoration shop. Vic is presently working on (6) cars.

One of his clients is a retired DA from San Bernardino, CA who loves to come in the shop and talk, talk, talk. Finally Vic told him my time is money and you are going to have to leave!

He responded , as he reached for his wallet, I want to buy one hour of your time how much do you get? So now he pays cash and MONEY TALKS.

MM:

I come up pretty 'short' on your list of what I need to do my own work....

About all I've got in the Benjamin's!!! devil

Actually all I've got is the CC.

And lots of 'it' seems to be directed more to the 'older' cars and that just isn't where I'm going.

I do appreciate your 'encouragement' however.....

:) wink :)

Bill , You are right on, most of the talk here is on the older cars. It is hard finding talkers for the "modern Vintage " cars of the 60s 70s and 80s. I think that VCCA certainly need more tours and events aimed at our "Modern Vintage Chevrolets, those with stock Auto transmissions, power and air. The other clubs and groups have their Power Tours etc. and many attend. ( I consider any car with an auto transmission and an 8 track "Modern")

Wasn't there a "V-8" (only) tour in No. Cal. last year?? Maybe in Sept. Seems like it might have been HQ in Chico.

I'd like to go on a V-8 tour sometime. Altho I do think these "only" tours are very divisive and will ultimately bring about the downfall of the VCCA.

Harder to keep the people together and getting to meeting points if there are 4, 6, and 8's on a tour, I would guess. Could be done but it would be a lot more work.

Looks like all of the 4 and 6 tours fill up real quick anyway...
