Gas didn't get that low here in Portland, Or recently. But it did get down to $2.11 at 'major' stations 10 days ago.

Apparently that was the 'bottom.' It's now back up to $2.19.

I'm so dumb I actually thought the first number might become a ONE!

Apparently the "BIG BOYS" weren't going to let THAT happen!!

Bill.

I just returned from a wonderful weekend of eating in Chicago Ill. This weekend was the start of "Taste of Chicago". Our group of 4 were among 250,000 tasting from over 100 Eating establishments. Back to the topic!!! Gas was $2.87 a gallon for regular at several places in the city!!! Luckly we filled up before entering Ill. and did not need gas till we returned to Indiana!

I am sure glad that us Texicans and Okies can just pull up to a oil well and fillup free! The regular folks have to pay $2.159 at the pump (Walmart sells Chinese gasoline for $2.049 but none of us Patriots buy there!)

Here in Aus petrol $1.10 a litre diesel $1.19 a litre so I use LPG at 52 cents a litre. There is no noticable difference in vehicle performance until you go to pay for the fuel and find more change in your wallet.

Speaking of gas prices and all...What is the name of the U.S. oil company that China wants to buy? Conoco or something like that...9th largest oil company in the US...am I alone in thinking that selling an oil company to China is stupid? Maybe they can buy all of them and have a Chinese OPEC with our own companies.

They outbid an American oil company by 2 billion...seems like they have a lot of our money to spend...

gator,

they bid to purchase unocal...the "company" that bid on it is 70% government owned...that's a huge advantage for them when it comes to capital...so far, they have been going around the world buying anything that they can, so their portfolio's a little scattered...they covet unocal, because many of their fields are in southeast asia, close shipping to china...the feds better step up and nix this deal in a hurry, or we're gonna regret it...

Interstingly enough, I noticed gas at a 'major' (Chevron/Standard Oil) gas station on the way home from youngest son's bar-be-cue tonight was still $2.19.

"They" didn't raise prices from June 27th (a week ago) 'heading' into the July Fourth 'holiday' weekend.

What the he!l's going on???? Better wake up those 'big boys' and remind 'em we're all accustomed to getting screwed by them and their higher prices for gas on summer holiday weekends!!!

It looks to me to be a good summer to kick back and work on a carburator or two, take the auto choke off and replace it with a manual choke, (anyone have an adaptation of a manual choke for a Q-jet Rochester with the divorced choke heat box?)
also get out the timing light and the dwell meter and tweek the old Chevrolet for its advertized features!

We were at the International in Lethbridge this past weekend, paid the equivalent of $3.57 a gallon, filled the 52 for $31.00+ Canadian.
